I wonder if Coulter was joking when she wrote this.

My freshman year at Haverford College back in 1984, the entire freshman class was required to attend a lecture on feminist themes in "Moby Dick." The professor explained that when the men had to go down to the water to hunt the whale. Since the ocean was a metaphor for femininity, they were getting in touch with their female side.

Asked to find symbolism in Moby Dick in high school on a test, I wrote that Ahab represented the Semitic peoples rising up to murder the generally peace-loving, but potentially deadly, Caucasian race. And that Ishmael was Israel, caught in between the two. And that Starbuck would open a huge multinational coffee chain first.

You can read anything into anything if you try hard enough.
