Mystery Man Jailed In Sallisaw

POTEAU — Authorities remain uncertain about the identity and significance of a man arrested in Sequoyah County who is of interest to several federal agencies.

The man who identified himself as Juan Carlos Fals may have as many as 15 aliases, said Richard Gray, district attorney. Fals appears to have two social security numbers and has a record of arrests in Florida, but his booking photo in Sequoyah County does not match a photo taken by Florida authorities.

“We don’t know who he is, but this thing has escalated and we may be sitting on a powder keg,” Gray said.

Santos Diaz, investigator for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, said he must contact the federal agencies who are interested in Fals and “follow the chain of command” before he can release information about the case.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Agency, Secret Service and Office of Homeland Security are involved in the investigation, Gray said.

Fals was arrested two weeks ago for speeding on Interstate 40. A search of the car revealed 12 counterfeit credit cards hidden under the carpet, according to court records.

Fals told officers he lived in New Mexico and was a handyman. But when investigators told Fals they would seek a bail amount of $1 million, Fals immediately arranged for a Florida woman to fly to Sequoyah County and pay cash to bail him out, court records state.

I guess handyman's must make a lot of money. Odd.

Don't think this guy is Saddam Hussein but the Secret Service is also interested in him.

I find myself wondering how a stop for speeding can turn into the search of an automobile(?)

Sounds more like "Mother Russia" (or Nazi Germany) to me.

I don't know. I have been stopped for speeding along that same area but my car has never been searched. When the cops checked the license something interesting must have turned up. I'm glad he is behind bars.

The only time our vehicle has EVER been searched was by Customs on our way back from Mexico. They even brought in the sniffer dog. The only things they found were mandarin orange peels and some egg shells. We were happy they carried them away because it was less garbage for us to dispose of.

LOL! About two weeks before September 11, 2001 I was returning home to Heidelberg, Germany from Stuttgart, Germany where I was teaching first grade. At that time normally to get on post you had to show your ID card and nothing more.

But, on this day the MPs at the gate told me that they were having random checks of cars and so they wanted me to open my trunk, and get out and open the hood of my car. (after they had had me pull my car over)

I was really annoyed and kind of embarrassed as I saw other cars allowed on post. Well, after I got out and opened my hood I got back into my car but not for long. The MP said, "Mam, you might want to come and look."

There was a dead squirrel in my engine. They took the squirrel and disposed of it and my attitude lightened up completely. The car had been overheating and I think the squirrel may have had something to do with it.
