Over here! Now CBS has picked up on the bogus story. Hard for me to fathom this all came from Thompson. I smell a planted story here that Thompson ran with and others are following suit.

Note that Tenant said he had no knowledge -- this smells!

Well, we can't really tell if CBS picked up on the Thompson story or not, can we, since CBS was careful to provide no facts that anyone could verify. Or refute.

Go back and look at the State of Union address. This fixation with a single sentence, as if it were the entire basis of the President's decision is absurd. In order of the points he made when he addressed the subject of Iraq:

1. Iraq was not to lead the inspectors on a scavenger hunt

2. 1999 Iraq had biological (according to the UN) weapons sufficent to produce 25,000 liters of anthrax. Saddam has given no evidence that he has destroyed it.

3. US Intelligence estimate that Saddam had the materials to produce 500 tons of sarin, mustard and VX nerve agent. He has not accounted for these materials.

4. US Intelligence indicates that Saddam had upwards of 30,000 munitions capable of delivering chemical agents. No evidence of destruction.

5. Iraqi defectors have said that Saddam had several mobile biological weapons labs. He has not disclosed or shown evidence of their destruction.

6. The IAEA confirmed in the 1990s that Saddam had an advanced nuclear weapons development program, had a design for a weapon and was working on five different methods of enriching uranium. BRITISH GOVERNMENT HAS LEARNED THAT HUSSEIN RECENTLY SOUGHT SIGNIFICANT QUANITIES OF URANIUM. US Intelligence has sources that say Saddam has attempted to purchase high-strength aluminum tubes suitable for nuclear weapons production.

7. Intelligence sources say that thousands of Iraqi security personnel are at work hiding documents and materials from inspectors.

8. Iraq is blocking U-2 surveillance flights.

9. Intelligence indicates that Saddam has ordered scientists who cooperate with UN inspectors to be killed along with their families.

He went on to make additional points about the known horrors of Saddam's regime and the possibility of what a nuclear or biological arsenal could mean to the region or the world if in the hands terrorists.
