This seemingly acceptance of police bashing in society and especially on this site disgusts me.Maybe if more police refused to participate in illegal, un-constitutional checkpoints and taxation disguised as traffic ticketing, there would be less criticism.
Many officers have forgotten that they are "peace officers" and are there to peacefully take care of things. Many officers no longer consider themselves "civilians" and instead are SWAT-team wannabes.

Cops have no choice but to follow the laws as enacted by their respective state representatives or the people who vote those laws by virtue of ballot measure.
Or in your world would you like to see the police themselves making up the laws as they see fit?
Does the term "law enforcement officer" ring any bells?

I've met too many cops who seem to think they are God and above the law. I also get annoyed when I see them breaking any traffic laws they want to without their lights on. If we have to follow the rules then they should too. I have even known one officer who held up a Taco Bell at gunpoint (his soon to be ex-wife was in there) and wasn't fired over it. He was only suspended for a short time. Cops shouldn't be above the law.
