AP
FRESNO, Calif. The wife of former Rep. Gary Condit has settled her $10 million libel suit against the National Enquirer over a story that said she berated Chandra Levy days before the Washington intern disappeared. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed. The settlement was reached Wednesday.
The lawsuit was brought over an Aug. 7, 2001, article that cited confidential police sources as saying Carolyn Condit "flew into a rage" during a telephone conversation with Levy.
Carolyn Condit said she never spoke with or met Levy, whose skeletal remains were found in a Washington park in May 2002. Washington police have said there was no truth to the Enquirer report.
Lawyers for the supermarket tabloid and Carolyn Condit would not elaborate on the settlement.
Police sources have told The Associated Press that Gary Condit, who represented the Modesto area until he lost a re-election bid last year, acknowledged having an affair with Levy. He has repeatedly denied any role in her disappearance.
Gary Condit has his own lawsuit pending, an $11 million defamation complaint against author Dominick Dunne.

Pathetic wife of slimey former pol profits from the death of misguided intern. Why does Carolyn Condit stay married to that man, "Gary Condit" as the weirdo son calls his father? Bizarre family.

Pathetic wife of slimey former pol profits from the death of misguided intern. You are making the unfounded assumption that "settling" means 'getting-paid-serious-money-in-exchange-for-dropping-the-suit.
That's NOT what it means.
It only means that both parties have agreed to a disposition that ends the litigation.
Perhaps Condit/her lawyers couldn't afford to pursue it any more and the Enquirer wasn't budging from it's position that it would go to trial? Perhaps Condit 'settled' for an agreement that she would drop her suit and the Enquirer promised it would not counter-sue her, or drop an existing countersuit?
So -- don't assume this represents a $$ 'victory' for Condit, unless you have more information than is given here.

Good point, WL-l.
Was it ever reported what Gary and the kids are doing these days for a living, or is the clan living on dad's congressional retirement? Are they all still living in the same house?
Thoughts to the Levy family in hopes one day this crime is solved...

Haven't had a good opportunity to post the obligatory Carolyn pic--taken the day she left the courthouse after filing the suit.

Many years of marriage to a lying, philandering piece of crap like Gary Condit obviously have done her a world of good.
To: WL-law
TRUE!!!! But many will construe this to be a "victory" for Mrs. Condit.
I personally think that she just didn't have the guts to go under oath in a court of law, and she was warned that if this thing went to trial, ALOT of stuff would have to be revealed in court that would not bode well for her or her husband!!

Technically you are correct, and you appear to know more about the possible legal ramifications of this settlement than I would. My bet is that the terms will leak out somwhere, and that the paper will have made some sort of financial settlement with Mrs. Condit. Just a hunch.

Thanks for the ping, NN. Thought this info might be worthy a ping to the usual suspects who gathered on the corner to chant, "We Have Not Forgotten - Gary Condit's Rotten!"
Saw the Condit clan, sans Gary, 6 months ago. They did not appear to be happy campers.
It has been reported that Gary moved to Scotsdale, AZ, but Chad is still in the neighborhood. Don't know about Cadee.

Oh man, what an awful pic! She looks like skeletor! Whassa matter, Carolyn, conscience eatin' ya up?
Saw a clip of her last night on Fox, dishing out food at a homeless shelter, I guess, but looked like someone should have been feeding her.
Thanks for the family update, DD, and for your dedication to freeping the heck out of these people!

I'm betting the Enquirer has proof.

Mrs. Condidit got millions, and Condidit has an even better case against Dumbinick Dunne, who also is loaded.
