This should be illegal. Do you mean putting up a website with anyone's publicly-available information, or just cops?

If my information is public then they have the right to do with it as they please. Either we stop making such information public or people should take more proactive steps to safeguard their information.

Whats your job? Do you want all your 'disgruntled' customers coming to visit you at home or harassing your family. Didn't think so.

I don't work in a job where I upset people on a daily basis. Public servants have a different standard from us in the private sector. Consider the freeps done outside of the vp residence in 2000 - it's part of the job.

I don't work in a job where I upset people on a daily basis. And if you did have a job where you upset people on a daily basis.... particularly the criminals that society wants to be rid of? Wouldn't you want a bit of privacy at home?
Protests against high public figures in an organized way is quite different.... laws are changed and society is impacted that way.
Police officers are in no position to change laws.... the only reason to look them up at home would be personal.

cops especially, because of the nature of their work. Gang bangers and disgruntaled liberals without work are suicidal, thus a risk to anyone who has to discipline them.

I don't any good coming from this. I'd hate to think of my phone, SSN and address being on some kook's web site.

I only care about cops and judges, the rest are notn essential functionaries in our society. So you think that the police and judges are more important than everyone else?

Perhaps your idea should extend to all those living on the public dole like welfare and food stamp recipients. In addition, anyone who receives free care at a hospital emergency room should have their photos, case history, and itemized treatment costs published online as well.

Thanks- didn't realize it, I did a search and found nothing... The other post has the wrong heading. Also, this one isn't really excerpted... I didn't know if the NY Times can be copied in full, so I left off the last period.
To: HairOfTheDog
Oh Lord..... I just have to remember that there are really very few people like you around....I agree with your sentiments... I can't believe all of this cop-bashing... Must be libertarian nuts who want to be free to do anything- screw their sheeps, anything without state interference.
To: HairOfTheDog
When I read things like those two idiots posted (E. Pluribus Unum and AAABest), it makes me want to abandon this forum. But your post reminded me that they are in the minority. Thank you.
To: tjblair
You must have missed all the traffic accidents that occured in Atlanta yesterday due to speeders. And I challange you to find one instance where a police officer had to deal with a smoker. You asshole.
To: HairOfTheDog
No - that website allows a personal vendetta to be carried out against any cop. Face it.... We hire cops to go deal with people and sometimes ruin their lives. Their justified and expected work would make them hated by some, and those 'some' are just the type to cause bodily harm, not some righteous protestor for justice as you and this website creator claim to be giving info to..... One cannot just claim good intentions while supplying information that can get people killedExcellent post!

Actually, I screwed up as you had the right heading and the other didn't.
Turned out to be a pretty good thread regardless.
