Matt, I wouldn't worry about bookstores not having you for signings. Just drum up interest locally and get a few hundred friends to show up!
Bookstores are in for the money. Heck, I'm up here in liberal la la land (near Albany NY) and there was a great crowd for Wayne LaPierre's newest at a bookstore that would be expected to have liberal lads and lassies puking in the parking lot at such an event.
