Seems more like we are following mandates of the UN than the will of the people
or the pursuit of our national interest

No peace, no peacekeepers. If we go in we should have many thousand heavily armed troops. Hell, there is no reason in the world for us to go there.

Gee, I don't know.  I saw former Liberian Vice President Moses Blah on FOXNews yesterday and he said that "All Liberians love Americans and no one would ever harm an American.  All Liberia needs is a massive welfare program and extensive aid."  What's the downside to that?  I mean, I don't think the guy would lie... would he?

Liberia is one of the biggest cesspools on the face of the earth and this is solely due to the behavior of it's citizens.  You can't bring civilization to barbarians in 18 months and it's not even worth trying.  Let the U.N. get involved in this muck pit, if Kofi and his boys aren't interested, then let the Liberians kill each other off.  This isn't worth spilling one drop of American blood.

Why did the press just discover the immediate need for Bush to intervene in Liberia? Is this a ploy to turn US black voters against Bush?

The country of Liberia was initially established by President Monroe and the American Colonialization Society. That's why the capital was named Monrovia. Monroe did not believe in using federal funds for the project so donations were raised and ships were purchased. No black was forced to emmigrate and, although funds were available to purchase their freedom, most blacks preferred to stay here either as slaves or free. Liberia was set up starting in 1822 and managed by these whites for almost 25 years and then was turned over completely to blacks in 1847(?). The mismanagement that occurred after this time can hardly be blamed on Americans.

Most founding fathers inherited the slavery system and tried to solve the problem. To say they were heartless bastards is a twisting of the historical record. The AHA ruled by communist red diaper babies like Eric Foner spew the lies about the founders of our country because they hate America.
