Amir Simhon, 24, did not die in vain, said friends and family, of the third victim of terror since the unilateral declaration of the Hudna some two weeks ago.
Realizing that the knife wielding terrorist was bearing down on him and his girlfriend, the Tel Aviv city inspector, who had just received a commendation for chasing down a thief on the same boardwalk, darted in front of his girlfriend and saved her life.
The 30 cm dagger slashed into his body, but his girlfriend was spared. At first rescue teams believed she had suffered grave wounds, but her clothes were soaked with SImhon's blood, not her own. Aviv Police spokesman said that Simhon absorbed the attacker's blows with his body, ultimately collapsing on top of her.
According to the Tel Aviv police spokesman's office, the young woman, who suffered from shock was assigned a social worker to help her grapple with the trauma.
But Simhon's family was also to suffer a mighty shock Tuesday early morning. "A doctor called the house," recalls his mother Herzliya, "he said that the boy had been in an accident." Only later was the mother to learn that a terrorist had taken her son's life, Ynet reported.
Dozens of friends, family and a delegation from the Border Police attended Simhon's funeral in Holon.
Simchon, had served in the army as a Border Policeman and was a member of the civil guard. He was one of five children. Family friends on Tuesday grappled with the news some reportedly calling out, "what kind of peace is this? They are killing us slowly," Ma'ariv reported.
According to Asael Bezalel, 24, of Tel Aviv, with whom Simchon had been friends since the 6th grade, he was active in community building between Jews and Arabs in Jaffa. He had volunteered for seven years in the civil guard.
Bezalel added that Simchon usually carried a pistol, and had he carried it on Monday night, he might have saved both himself and others. "The saddest thing about this tragedy said Bezalel, is that in the Border Police you are taught never to let down your guard, never to forget your weapon at home."
"But if you ask me," added Bezalel, his eyes glazed from lack of sleep, "he died a hero, giving his life for someone else to live."
Bezalel described Simhon as an ambitious, hardworking young man, who "was willing to suffer for what he believed in. He worked with the special dog unit in the Border Police, [much of his work conducted in the West Bank and in the Jerusalem area] and the conditions and time demanded of him were incredible. He would come home once in three weeks, but in all the years I knew him he did not complain."
But members of the family were broken. His aunt who lost her son Kobi Zaharon in the Disengof Center bombing in 1995 noted morosely, "the grief accompanies me every day. For me, life has run its course. I survive only because of the family."

The horse orders a beer.
A few minutes later, John Kerry walks in and sits at the bar. The bartender walks up and says "Hey pal, cheer up. Why the long face?"

Beachfront terror

Indeed a 30 cm (~12 inches) knife is not a toothpick. Unless you are refering to an "Arkansas Toothpick".
Something else.
Funny..... but as of late I haven't read about any Palestinians being killed, just Israelis....
Do you think that the Israelis should continue to sit quietly by while they are slowly slaughtered?
And I didn't call any religion bad, I said that it is ignorant of those who keep saying that Islam is the problem instead of directly blaming the culprits.
1. I've never attacked all Muslims. Unlike most Americans, I have read the Koran. I respect a fellow desert religion.
2. Didn't you bring up the Crusades?
