WASHINGTON (AP) - Sen. Rick Santorum would advise his children to resist any "temptations" of homosexuality, according to an interview published Tuesday.
In the interview with the magazine GQ, Santorum, R-Pa., was asked what he would do if one of his six children told him of homosexual urges.
"I would treat it like I would any other thing my child comes to me with," Santorum answered. "Try to deal with it in a loving, supportive way."
He continued: "You try to point out to them what is the right thing to do. And we have many temptations to do things we shouldn't do. That doesn't mean we have to give in to those temptations. I have temptations, as we all do, all the time, to do things we shouldn't do.
"Whether we have that disposition because of environmental factors, genetic factors, whatever, it doesn't mean you have to submit. We are people of free will and free choices."
The GQ interview focused largely on comments Santorum made to The Associated Press in April, when he said he has "no problem with homosexuality - I have a problem with homosexual acts" and compared homosexuality to bigamy, polygamy, incest and adultery.
Following those comments, Santorum was targeted by gay-rights groups, Democrats and some Republicans. Some urged him to step down from his leadership post in the Senate, where he is the third-ranking Republican. He survived the flap and is widely viewed as laying the groundwork to pursue the post of Senate majority leader as early as 2006.
Santorum's spokeswoman did not return a call seeking comment Tuesday.

Sounds like the proper course of action for a parent to take - wonder how the media / gay activists will spin it?

Way, way, way overdue for some effective GOP Senate leadership. The majority won't last forever; gotta strike while the iron's hot.

Amen, Senator Santorum. Godspeed on your pursuit of a more moral nation.

McConnell would be a better majority leader, he knows when to avoid putting his foot in his mouth. I wouldn't mind seeing Elizabeth Dole or Kay Bailey Hutchison in that role either, to help with the soccer moms.

I can IMAGINE the liberal reaction to this. They must be tearing their skin off. You would urge your son to resist homosexuality? How dare you!!! He'd probably urge his son to resist AIDS too!
Homosexuality is a disease.

The last line pretty much answers the question: "Santorum's spokeswoman did not return a call seeking comment Tuesday." He was being asked to comment on his own comment? Come on ...

"...Homosexuality is a disease."
I was at the Arizona Science Center on July 4th with family and noticed an exhibit on "Addiction." I don't recall all the characterizing behaviors but it seemed to peg homosexual deviant sexual behavior. It has negative physical/health consequences, you may want to stop, but you are overcome by your compulsion.

Why, I bet that intolerant bigot would tell his children to fight urges to molest little kids, too! What gives him the right to dictate how pedophiles express their affections?

and compared homosexuality to bigamy, polygamy, incest and adulteryThe AP article does not properly explain the context in which Santorum's remarks were made - his statements were perfectly legitimate - he was discussing the ramifications of the "any sexual matter done in private between consenting adults should be allowed" mantra that is so often put forth as an argument by homosexual rights advocates. Therefore, once again, the AP has, either knowingly and intentionally or through lack of professionalism and journalistic integrity, cast aspersions against a conservative by making it appear that he was saying something totally different from what he actually said.

Conservative Congresscritter Pat Toomey is going to challenge Arlen Spector in the GOP primary next year. I hope Toomey takes Arlen Spector down. The last thing we need is "Scottish Law" Spector as Senate Judiciary Chairman.

I didn't even realize, until after I posted, that the author of this AP piece, one "Lara Jakes Jordan", apparently is a rabid gay rights and Democrat party advocate/activist related by marriage to a Kerry campaign confidante, writing under the guise of a journalist. See
this Joseph Farah column. Do a google search - you will come up with lots of underhanded, dirty tricks with Lara Jakes Jordan's name attached to them. The AP has no business treating her stuff as journalism.
