Senator Kerrys Senate Record Inconsistent with Candidate Kerrys Campaign Rhetoric
Kerry Supported Slashing $2.6 Billion from Intelligence Funding While Serving as a Member of Senate Intel Committee
Washington, DC-Democratic Presidential Candidate John Kerry delivered a speech today where he made the following statement:
Today: "We cannot afford to leave the front lines of home security without the resources they need any more than we can afford to leave our soldiers vulnerable to attack in Iraq,'' he said.
(Associated Press, July 16, 2003, Kerry says credibility gap has opened between Bush rhetoric, actions)
In reality, Senator Kerry, as a member of the Senate Committee on Intelligence, supported slashing $2.6 billion dollars in intelligence funding.
(S. 1290, Introduced 9/29/95; H.R. 2076, CQ Vote #480: Adopted 49-41: R 9-40; D 40-1, 9/29/95, Kerry Voted Yea) as S. Amdt. 1452 to H.R. 3759. (S. 1826, Introduced 2/3/94) (Amdt.. To H.R. 3759, CQ Vote #39: Rejected 20-75: R 3-37; D 17-38, 2/10/94, Kerry Voted Yea; Graham, Lieberman And Braun Voted Nay)
In 1997:"Now that that [Cold War] struggle is over, why is it that our vast intelligence apparatus continues to grow even as Government resources for new and essential priorities fall far short of what is necessary?
(Senator John Kerry agreeing with Critics Of Intel Community, Congressional Record, 5/1/97, p. S3891)
Incoming Chairman of the Republican National Committee Ed Gillespie made the following statement in response to Kerrys comments.
"Candidate Kerry's political rhetoric is an indictment of his Senate record. He supported slashing $2.6 billion in intelligence funding in the course of his Senate career, including $80 million in cuts to the F.B.I. alone. His policy approach is based solely on hindsight, reflecting an inability to look ahead to the needs of securing our homeland and winning the war against terror."
"Candidate Kerry is proving once again that he is more interested racing to the left of Howard Dean by politicizing war and national security issues than he is in making our nation and our world a safer place."

Looks like the Incoming RNC Chairman Gillespie is just what we need to head RNC going into the 2004 elections. Senator Kerry makes a speech and Chairman Gillespie puts out a press release along with an RNC Research Article detailing how Kerry wanted to cut Intelligence spending!
This is not the RNC of 2000 and am I glad!

Agree -- go get 'em, Ed!

I remember griping all the time on here in 2000 about RNC! What a difference -- Gov Racicot reorganized RNC, they have an active Research Group, and now Gillespie comes along and takes over.
I am one happy Republican!

I think Gillespie is going to be an asset to the RNC! Thanks for the post! It's really quite easy to show the hypocrisy of all the RATS..the impossible part is getting the media to report it. Ed will be a good warrior in this war!

Ed Gillespie is a smart political player, along the lines of Karl Rove and Lee Atwater. A good man and the right man for a very tough job. Glad he's on our side.

Here's another one that Gillespie & the RNC need to go after:
****Levin's Sources****
A conservative legal group is challenging Sen. Carl Levin to reveal the sources for his long-standing contention that Iraq was trying to build a nuclear weapon.
In recent weeks, the Michigan Democrat has led the way in accusing the Bush administration of misleading Congress and the public about the danger from Iraqi weapons of mass destruction.
"For five years, Senator Levin has insisted that Iraq has been pursuing weapons of mass destruction, including a nuclear program. We insist that Senator Levin reveal the sources and the bases for his long-standing allegations," Landmark Legal Foundation President Marc Levin told this column yesterday.
"And if Senator Levin cannot reveal that information or has been misleading the public for the last five years, then he should voluntarily step down as the ranking member on the Senate Armed Services Committee."
The Landmark president, in a letter to the senator yesterday, noted that in an Oct. 9, 1998, speech on the floor of the Senate, Mr. Levin had talked about Iraqi chemical weapons and referred to "reports that Iraq attempted to acquire materials for a nuclear weapons program, contrary to its treaty obligations."
And as recently as Aug. 4, 2002, the senator said he assumed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein would "continue with a clandestine nuclear program if he can."

Poor Kerry...
Never realized he was a Jew - until recently.
Was duped to vote in support of war in Iraq...
Forgot that records of his votes were kept..
Lied about throwing his medals over the fence in protest..
Looks so French...
Has big hair...
Just another 60's prick that never grew up..
And, he behaves so "French".....

Kerry #1: We must cut intelligence!
Kerry #2: This intelligence sucks!
NO SCHIZOPHRENICS IN THE WHITE HOUSE--THAT WOULD BE YOU, SCARY KERRY.

I agree with you...this is the approach I'd love to see in the next election cycle. Bring out the facts to discount the rhetoric. The nation is at a juncture where more people will be paying attention and voting, and we all gain if the misinformation and false rhetoric are exposed before it gets traction.
