Just got a bottle of the 15 yr olde. Gave it a small taste, very smooth, good warm aftereffect. Not cheap. Better than the Glen Livet. I'll have a few fingers later on tonite when it cools down.

I came back to read this thread and wanted to compliment you on your healthy looking "Wall Of Booze". I need a larger house, so I can have something similar. All in due time,of course. Mmm Hmmm.

When I was in the liquor store, they had boxed bottles of 15 yr Dewars White Label Special reserve on sale for 23 bucks. I normally don't drink the blends, but Dewars is probably the best. Guess I'll have to go back tomorrow.

I'll have to visit the big store downtown here this week. I'm not an accomplished Scotch drinker, but I do like most of what I've tried. Scotch is interesting - a good, full bodied taste along with a little history. I need more practice. :)

I use Dewars as an every-day Scotch. Well, not "every day" but its more of a staple, with the more expensive single malts serving for special occasions and such.

One correction. It's not "macallan" but THE MACALLAN

The 18 (18 years in the cask before bottling) is going for around $150 per 750 ml bottle now. It's the finest single malt, all around, that I've ever come across. Pass a dram down the table, without anyone drinking it, just smelling it as it passes, then ask the folks at the table what they think.

Oh for gosh sake. Those spending $150 for the stuff have more money than sense.

The 12 year is selling for under $50. I tasted them side by side. The 18 year is nicer, but anyone who thinks the 18 year is 3 times better deserves to be parted from his money, but doesn't deserve good scotch. Slip him something else. A fool of his caliber won't know the difference.

Maybe you were drinking bad Scotch. Try Glenfiddich.

No offense intended, but Glenfiddich is in my "Scotch for Dummies" category. All the interesting scotches are elsewhere. But Glenfiddich is alright to prepare your palate for them.

My thoughts exactly. Usually the best you can get at a bar is the Glen Livet, but the Dalwhinnie is mightily impressive. Very smooth. Vanilla-like, almost creamy.
I don't like my Scotch to have a bite to it. I like to enjoy it. Wine, on the other hand, is a different story. Merlot or Cabernet, the more tannin and bitterer the better, excellent with almost all foods.

Glenfiddich is in my budget. And it is definitely better than Dewars.

I don't buy either the 12 or the 18. However, when I'm on a vendor's dime I tend to get a shot of the 18. When I'm on my own I get the Famous Grouse blend (g).
