If we define adultery as intercourse outside of marriage then internet dalliances are not adultery in a clinical sense.

But they are in a moral sense, and they are in every way adulterous. They are a violation of one's marriage vows, they constitute an alienation of affection legally, and they are deeply sinful.

if a married man goes to a strip club and receives a lap dance, is that adulterous? or uses a playboy magazine for uh ahem, his satisfaction is that adultery as well?
see i still think there's a diffference between lust in one's heart and mind and the physical act performed between 2 people (don't get me wrong....i'm not advocating this behavior). who among us....both men and women haven't had a little "lust" in our hearts for the opposite sex, even if we're married.
