Colonel Mayville's Dream

US Colonel Mayville asks Sadullah Kavak the coordinator of Turkish Kahramanmarash EDO Ice Cream in Kirkuk for franchise in New York.

The US Colonel William Mayville, who arrested 11 Turkish special forces who were on duty in Suleymaniye and put sacks over their heads, said that he wants to open a cafe in New York and sell Marash ice cream once retired. Kahramanmarash EDO Ice Cream general coordinator Sadullah Kavak was Mayville's latest civilian visitor. Kavak, who took 50 kilos of ice cream to colonel Mayville who arrived at a meeting at the local Turkmen leader Mustafa Kemal Yaycili's house with three hummers, three official cars and 40 fully armed servicemen (15 of whom were women) tells the story:

He's aware of his mistake

"Mayville said he loved Turkish food, and asked me for Turkish Delight (a sort of candy). I didn't know that he was the one who put bags over the heads of our servicemen. I was surprised when he asked "Why didn't you bring me some Turkish journalists?" When I asked why, Yaycili explained who he was. When he asked me for a franchise in America, I replied "gladly." Even though he is viewed with disdain by the general public in Turkey, I interpreted his attitude as positive. I felt that he felt regret. We will evaluate his franchise request."

Is this for real? How is an Army officer conducting private business while on duty.

Babblefish may need to check algorithms or some such when it comes to their Turkish translations.

Kahramanmarash is known as a city of furniture makers and wood workers as well as for its wonderful ice cream. A friend of mine here in N Ky, owner of a successful millwork business, learned his craft there.

That's a funny article, thanks for the ping. I have a feeling Mayville's max'd out his career opportunities - Ice Cream franchise owner might be a good option and you've got to love the irony.

My apologies.

I wondered if it was an Internet translation because the article just doesn't make any sense from what I know of expected conduct of officers in the American military.

I'm going to assume that the reporter simply wasn't accurate.

The meeting was to arrange 70 tons of ice cream for the US troops in Mosul, Kirkuk, and Suleymaniye.. Then the colonel expressed an interest in selling the stuff when he retires. No big deal.

No need to apologize.
