That's silly. I have Time/Life books of WW2O that have photos much more graphic than these photos; Japanese who had committed suicide in caves rather than be captured, or who got caught in a flamethrower blast, Americans face-down in South Pacific sand.
Nobody thought twice about publishing those. It's only a modern myth that truth about war is barbaric.

I have seen worse looking photos taken during the US Civil War, WWII concentration camp photos, and photos from Vietnam and Korea. These are relatively tame in comparison.
