Tom DeLay, the House majority leader and an evangelical Christian, is to visit Israel, Jordan and Iraq next week, bringing his message of grave doubt that the Middle East is ready for a Palestinian state, The New York Times reported Thursday.
"I'm sure there are some in the administration who are smarter than me, but I can't imagine in the very near future that a Palestinian state could ever happen," he said in an interview Thursday.
"I can't imagine this president supporting a state of terrorists, a sovereign state of terrorists," he said. "You'd have to change almost an entire generation's culture."
DeLay instead called on the administration to carry out a "Marshall Plan" for Palestinian areas, with the United States paying to rebuild the economy there rather than supporting a Palestinian regime.
The 'Times notes that DeLay has often fought for more aid to Israel than the Bush administration has offered, and has in the past called the peace plan "a road map to destruction."
"I recognize that my faith came from that part of the world," he said. "And in my faith, fighting for right and wrong, and understanding good and evil, is pretty apparent and pretty straightforward."

How in heck did the American People get tapped again to reward terrorism and institutionalized hate through a comprehensive rebuilding program?
Hey Tom! We have an economy over here that needs rebuilding not looting!

I've never heard that TD is a Christian until now. Another monument to the liberal media. Whatever his ideas are, they could not be much worse than what is now on the table.....

The JP is closely linked to the NYT.
I suspect this is a hit piece to energize protests in Israel.

Tom DeLay is certainly on the side of the angles in this one. However, whay don't most backer of Israel realise there is nothing much that can be done with the Arrabs resident either in Gaza, Smararia and Judea and most of those living in Israel. These people are never going to accept any sort of jewish state on what is considered Arab land. The Arabs iside Israel and those in any sort of'Palestinain State' will continue to try and destroy Israel for as long as they reside there. The answer to this situation is unfortunate but simple. For almost all the Arabs expulsion to some Moslem state. Since we currently occupy Iraq that would be a fine place to relocate these folks so they live among their fanatic coreligionists and be forever separated from the Jewish state.

He had me cheering until I read this part. Tom, the Marshall Plan helped rebuild our allies and our defeated enemy. The Pallies are neither allies nor defeated. This is more akin to Marshall and Truman's original plan, which was to priovide aid to Stalin as well as Western Europe.

Iraq is perfect. We should use it for a homeland for all dissatisfied Arabs.
