I ran across this document a couple of years ago, and had lost the link.

It's provided for its historical perspective.

Castro is a revolting commie. But I am sure you have no bias whatsoever.

Testimony of Spruille Braden before the Senate Subcommittee on Internal Security: "But I observed that when the United States, in the face of the solid support against the Soviet and communism given us by the Batista regime, refused to ship arms to that Government (bought and paid for by it, frequently on the recommendations of our military, naval and air missions), it inevitably would convince the Cuban people that we were supporting Castro and opposed to Batista. I said that this interpretation would lead to Castro's victory, which would result in chaos throughout Cuba, which in turn would lead to Communist control of that island. This is exactly what happened."

Just as Ike refused to do anything at all, by word or deed, to help the Hungarians in their brave fight against the stinking Commies, in '56, so too did our government hand Cuba over to Castro.

Castro was always a communist. The New York Times would not have supported him if he were not.

None at all.

I hated him before I read this.

"Castro was always a communist. The New York Times would not have supported him if he were not."

That should have been a dead give away...

Those documents were seized on the evening of January 24, 1959 at the Vedado neighborhood of Havana

That's where I lived until summer 1959...right down the street from the 2 factions who lived across the street from each other! The Machado's and (memory fails) can't remember the other group.

They had a big shootout on Halloween night 1958 - I was out trick-or-treating with my sisters & other neighborhood kids when the shooting started.

I don't remember exactly, but my sisters keep ribbing me about my trying to catch the "fireflies" that were flying by! (tracers) I do remember the gunshot holes in all the houses on the street the next day.

There always seems to be a lot of bad historical data out there about castro and his "revolution", I thought this may help clear things up a bit.

There is also a whole lot to blame to lay on Cuba's aristocracy, and their disdain for "El Negro" Batista, and his ex-maid First Lady; they supported Castro's revolution.

Another thing that people do not seem to know is the fact that there were several groups fighting against Batista at the time, and that Castro literally stole his victory from another insurgent group.

"The Machado's and (memory fails)..."

Directorio Revolucionario?

You MUST pick up a copy of "Cuba In Revolution. Escape From A Lost Paradise" by Dr. Miguel Faria, Jr.

In 1959 I was in La Vibora.

I know. That's WHY I threw it into the mix. Ike wasn't a " good " president and far from a Conservative one.

Yes, I know. I was alive and old enough to understand the news reports, that I read in the papers and what I watched on T.V., at the time, though of course, so much of it WAS biased.
