"If" has been a long-time favorite and it indeed is by Kipling. I learned it by heart at one time - (by choice, not in school). It made an impression on me the first time I read it. I still quote "If you can dream-- and not make dreams your master;" from time to time.

Will there ever be a combo as Lamour, Crosby and Hope? I'm glad I was there to enjoy them!

Back in 1998, I had the good fortune to see Bob Hope at the Stockton, CA Air Show.

Stockton developer and San Diego Chargers owner Alex Spanos brought Bob and Dolores to the air show. Oh yeah, the Blue Angels were there too.

Bob didn't perform, but Bob, Dolores, and Spanos did a "Pass in Review" in an open Lincoln Continental in front of all the spectators. They were quite a distance away from the crowd, but it was still exciting to see Mr. and Mrs. Hope.

If I remember correctly, the announcer stated that the limo they were riding in was pretty famous too. It was used in Dallas on November 22, 1963.

At the air show, it seemed that Bob may not have been too well at the time. Didn't matter to me. I finally got to see Bob Hope. My time overseas at Christmas time was in the Philipines and Bob, rightfully so, was performing in VietNam.

Salute!, Bob. You will always be remembered. Thanks for the memories

I can't believe all of this happened so long ago, and with his passing it all became so vivid once again. Bob Hope hasn't performed in many years and yet he is so warmly remembered as if it was yesterday.. I true testament to a larger than life hero.

Although it's not nearly as personal as your memory, I too have a personal attachment to Mr. Hope. In the 1960's my Father wrote an article on Bob Hope. For many years after that article, my family received a Christmas Card from him and his family. It was always the "wait" for the card, because he never sent them out until he came back from wherever he was entertaining troops that particular Christmas. So his Christmas cards always arrived in January. As kids my brothers and I would always run to the mailbox in January, because we wanted to be the first one to open up the Christmas card! This lasted until probably the early 1990's, when I assumed they probably cleaned up their Christmas list!
