With all of the whining we've heard from the State Government about needing more money, they're spending 28K State and over 100K of Federal funds to plant flowers on the side of the road. And to top that off, the poll is over 70% in favor of this ridiculous program. Please help Tennessee FREEP this poll, and stop the red ink!

Is this project being undertaken to inhibit soil erosion, or is it just another touchy-feely gesture? If the former, I'd be inclined to support it; if the latter, forget it.

In west Tennessee where I live, they plant them in the median of the interstate loop through Memphis. This is strictly to "Make the state beautiful". For half of the year, it looks like they have just forgotten to mow the areas. The flowers bloom for a few weeks, then they mow them down.
This is happening during the worst budget crisis in many years. We narrowly escaped a state income tax last year, when our traitor (GOP)governer tried to ram it through the legislature.
Surprisingly, our newly elected (dem) Governer has cut the executive branch budget by 9%, and asked the other branches to do likewise. We don't know yet if he's for real, or just appearing to try to solve the problem. I figure he'll say that we tried, but it's not enough, so we have to raise taxes anyway.
