[history]
July 29, 2003 -- Two decades after opening as a small alternative program, the Harvey Milk School will debut this fall as the nation's first fully accredited public high school for gay students, with enrollment meant to triple by September 2004.

I'd never thought I'd live to see the day liberals would bring "separate but equal" back into vogue. Oh well.

The liberals can't win for losing with this. A homosexual ought to have a right to choose the school, of course. At the same time, a homosexual should have the right to choose another school. But if the sodomy school gets more funding and favoritism than the other schools, non-homos would cry foul. This is rich!

Indeed, just try to imagine the uproar if it were to be argued that allowing flamboyantly gay students into a regular public school was disruptive - that they had to be isolated for the common good. Bingo!

Long also raises legitimate questions about the school's curriculum: "Is there a different way to teach homosexuals? Is there gay math?" Little Johnny is married to little Tommy and have a "loving" but "open" marriage. How may times can little Johnny cheat on little Tommy before little Tommy goes insanely jealous and chops little Johnny into eensey-weensy litte pieces?
1) 27 times with random men.
2) 44 times with men they both know at the "Copa".
3) 53 times with random men and that "bitch Steve" who works tends bar at the "Copa".
4) 76 times with random men including 23 encounters in the public restroom at "Playland".

6) None of the above

it's not as if gay students are the only ones who face harassment

Now if we could just get all the boys and girls separated, they might learn something other than how to use condoms.

I think this is a great idea. It's the stuff of Monty Python skits and endless howls of derisive laughter.
This school is a parody within a parody. Give us more Mayor Mike!!!

LOL! But what about the weird dressing kids who are straight? If someone determines that they are 'flamboyantly gay', such as a boy in tights with a Robin Hood hat, then he gets shipped off too. That might tick off a few parents....

An old friend of mine was harrassed daily back in the 80s for looking punk/goth. The other high school kids taunted him, threw gum in his hair, slashed his tires, and so on. He wanted to transfer schools, but the county would only approve transfers for students who were being harrassed for being pregnant or else for being gay.
He, and a few others, ended up meeting privately with the principal (with their mothers present) and saying that they were gay just so they could get the transfer to the other school. The principal knew it was all a lie (that they weren't gay), but he just needed them to say it so that he could approve the transfers (after all, it's not like he could have asked them to prove otherwise).
They then got to the new school and carried on with their heterosexual lives.

There are going to be 100 initially admitted to this school, so what about the gay kids who don't get into this school. Will their "feelings" be hurt? Will they be forever scarred? Who makes the decision as to who gets in and who doesn't? Can they sue if they are not able to enroll, claiming psychological damage? Can they make claims against the city if they are harassed for going to this school?
To: kattracks
Do 15 year old kids really already know they're gay? And are there really that many teenagers who have already come out of the closet to their family and friends?

Good pionts!
Why name the school after Harvey Milk? Whose bright idea was sthat? Milk was a Rev. Jim Jones groupie. Rumors even have the mayor (who also strongly supported Jones) and his deaths as somewhat linked to the People's Temple.

and the real question on the day, who gets to be bathroom monitor today? ME me me me me, no, me, no its my turn, no you had your turn last week, no, I'm going to tell teacher what you did last week and you will get a whipping, oh goody really? What really needs to happen is the new york school system being whipped into shape, but that isn't going to happen anytime soon by the looks of things.

This is lifestyle advocacy at the taxpayer's expense. Is there a high school for celibate students? How about one for dopers? And here's an idea that's realllllllly far fetched: how about a high school dedicated exclusively to kids who ... WANT TO LEARN SOMETHING!!!

Give the taxpayers their money back, and let everyone start their own schools.
No, we can't have that - there might be a school where all the students are Catholic and Confederate sympathizers, and have the same last name, and the girls have to wear dresses and the boys CAN'T ...
