Professor Daniel Pipes, Director of the Middle East Forum and publisher of Militant Islam Comes To America, has been nominated by President George Bush to the United States Institute of Peace. Most people here know his credentials. This nomination, when brought up in the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, "failed to reach a quorum," under pressure by Islamic activist groups like The American Muslim Council (AMC), the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), the Middle East Studies Association (MESA) and the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), and Democrat collusion.
These extremist Islamic interest groups are avowed enemies of Mr. Pipes, and engaged in a concerted campaign to see this nomination derailed -- another example of the direct threat to our way of life and freedom; modeling the intellectual tyranny which is synonymous with militant Islam. FREE REPUBLIC is the antidote to this campaign.
Daniel Pipes is real close to becoming another victim of that tyranny!
We cannot let this stand. The congressional elements of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee need to be contacted immediately, as well as letters and calls of support for this nomination to President Bush. These people, especially the Chairman of the committee, Senator Gregg, need to see a growing stack of letters in the week ahead, as well as phone calls and faxes. If you have to, copy the letter I recently sent to President Bush below, print it out, and send it. They count the number of letters more than the content. All it takes is a the price of a stamp.
The petition in support of this nomination of Daniel Pipes has acquired more than 6300 signatures at this point. These signatories, most who voiced strong approval for Mr. Pipes, as well as all of you, are the ones Mr. Pipes needs, today, to stand on his behalf. He has stood on all our behalf, in the almost two years since the treacherous and cowardly attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, in wisdom, patience, and dignity, clarifying exactly who the enemy is we are fighting.
Unless militant Islam is defeated in the global intellectual and social arena, we can be assured our military husbands and wives, sons and daughters, and friends, will be spending many years in the future dealing with this totalitarian ideology on the front lines. Dr. Daniel Pipes is the pointman in that particular counter-terrorism campaign of defeating it in the arena of the WAR OF IDEAS!.
It was Todd Beamer, on board United Airlines Flight 93, who uttered the call, "Let's Roll!" It was a phrase President Bush repeated soon after to dispatch American military might to the other side of the globe to finally face this dangerous threat. Daniel Pipes life work is just another aspect of that campaign. But he needs our help!
SO LET'S ROLL! Let these people know America supports and wants Daniel Pipes in this position!

Dear President Bush:
I am writing in regard to your nomination of Professor Daniel Pipes to the United States Institute of Peace. Recently, in the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, under extreme pressure from opponents, his nomination was tabled because "a quorum was not present" and the other Congressmen involved voted to kick it back to you to withdraw the nomination.
This is inexcusable. Daniel Pipes is eminently qualified for this position, and among those who are observers and supporters, he has always maintained an extremely objective and balanced approach to the problem of militant Islam. Yet, his detractors can only revert to the juvenile, schoolyard tactics of unjustified namecalling and abusive argumentum ad hominem attacks against him and his work, unable to prevail against his superior ideas.
Our friends, sons, and daughters in our military are deployed overseas in harm's way because of militant Islam. Yet this war will only be truly won in the arena of the war of ideas. This nation's tolerance is being used against it to ultimately destroy it by extremists who protect terrorism, as they worship at the alter of political correctness run amuck.
I ask therefore that you sustain your nomination of Daniel Pipes, and not back down in the face of the likes of CAIR, the MPAC, the neo-left, and other terrorist sympathizers who have been working to derail the nomination of Mr. Pipes. America needs to stand behind qualified individuals like this who are not afraid to speak the truth concerning the oppressive and totalitarian ideologies which are at the root of the terrorist attacks against us, and the overall war on terror.

Actually, Pipes is pretty much the only game in town in how to deal with Islam on a level other than militarily. One billion Muslims just aren't going to give up their religion.
Can't kill 'em all. Questions on the morality of that.
So Pipes argues we build up the positions of the "moderates" within the Muslim community and play the two against each other, while keeping the pressure on globally, in the intellectual, political, social, and economic arenas.
Daniel Pipes has the political and social aspects nailed down. Having him on the board of the USIP would be filling in another hole in our wall.
Free Republic needs a lobbyist on Capital Hill.
The AMC, are the ones that HILLARY CLINTON accepted a donation from, and then lied about knowledge of the real name of the group. She claimed she thought they were the AMERICAN MUSEUM COUNCIL, (just a coincidence they were all Muslims and didn't speak any ENGLISH, heck, that coulda fooled anyone)
Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't all these groups named above, just FOREIGNERS taking advantage of our civil freedoms and using the formation and legality of these associations to attempt to take over our government from the inside ?
