Following slaying of Dennehy at Baylor, coaches plan to keep closer tabs on players.

Lamar's Billy Tubbs, a college basketball coach for 28 seasons, will for the first time have a rule that his players can't own guns.

Getting rid of thugs makes more sense than getting rid of guns.

Oops, I forgot. Get rid of them and there goes the sport.

Tubbs is an emotional idiot. The problem is a crminal mindset among many college athletes today. Get rid of them and you've solved the problem.

Did you know that there is ANOTHER "Bang List"?

Chatty bang_list gun-related posts properly made to the "General Interest" area (as opposed to News/Activism area) are NOT visible when you view the regular bang_list.

If you want to see posts regarding "What gun to buy?", vanities on gun politics, and silly gun-related stories, bookmark this spot:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/finduser?user=%2Abang_list

If you want to post to this chat list, click "General Interest" (aka "chat") in the upper right under "my forums", then post, then reply to "*bang_list".

(Normally, this current "my new gun" thread would have been moved to the chat side, and you would have entirely missed its high-level discourse!)

Actually, this post would not be found in chat. I was thinking I was posting to a different thread.

Yep- recent developments convince me that my complete lack of interest in basketball is not a bad thing! Especially since you are likely to find more basketball news on the crime page than the sports page these days...

Too bad that the criminal thugs are taking over in other sports, though.

I wonder if the coach remembers that thing called

THE BILL OF RIGHTS

Yeah, I know, its out of date, but its the LAW.This is Texas fer Chrissakes.. How many of those kids may be hunters and sportsman. You going to prohibit them from owning shotguns and deer rifles? Oh, sorry, stupid me, how many gang bangers are going to know about real outdoors skills and hunting anyway?

How about getting athletes who are THUGS off the team?

I have participated in rifle matches, where there is no violence and there is a concern for safety and there is sportsmanlike behavior. This is a big contrast to what goes on with many college athletes -- especially in the big-money sports. Violence, crazy, unsafe behavior and unsportsmanlike behavior are unfortunately all-too common in certain college sports -- bad behavior abounds, both by the players and the fans.

Somehow after shooting competitions, we neglect to riot and burn and vandalize everything for miles around. You would think with all the "violent" guns around, someone would have thought to cause mayhem -- maybe someone who made a low score would get jealous and shoot the winner. Or maybe the spectators would riot and burn the cars in the parking lot. But somehow mayhem never happens. Perhaps our minds are too dull to read the evil "violence rays" that gun control advocates claim the guns must emit. Or maybe we just aren't very imaginative.

I wish every college and high school had a shooting team. Such teams would be examples of people acting like adults instead of acting like thugs and spoiled brats.

Entering into a voluntary contract does not violate the Constitutional rights. I hate to say this, but your objection is not valid. The kids could just opt not to participate in roundball.

I wonder if he'll prohibit them from voting Republican or writing letters to the editor or worshipping at a synagogue, too. Hey, why not infringe on ALL your players' natural rights! Being a tyrant is fun!

How about banning paranoid schizophrenics from the team?
