Mark Steyn is brilliant! Such a logical thinker and amazing wit with an abundance of historical knowledge to back up everything he writes. He actually has the guts to call the Liberian government criminal and to point out the hypocrisy of the extreme left. I like this idea:
But if Howard Dean thinks this is a little light six months of peacekeeping, maybe he should volunteer for the Paul Bremer role.
Indeed! Dean thinks he can be president without attending to global matters because his socialized citizens will be so content with their high taxes and "free" government programs they won't care about foreign policy or any other security except the "social" one. THANKS FOR THE PING!

Maybe we are looking at this all wrong, I think Good Ole Georgie, should appoint Jesse Jackson and Quasi Emphummie (you know president of the NAaLCP, ex congress man, father of seven children buy seven different women, etc.) and Julian Bond, to use the PUSH/NAALCP foundations money to use its resources, to turn Liberia into the heaven on earth they have made the South Side of Chicago.
After all nothing is to good for the home land, they all long for.

Steyn is brilliant, as usual. It's time to start using the old but accurate words, like imperialism. The fact is civilization did not take in much of Africa during the colonial era. My heart goes out to the ordinary people who are subjected to the kind of barbarous tribal warfare the West hasn't seen in over a thousand years.
People need not get worked up over this. Bush isn't about to colonize Liberia. We'll send in an MEU that is no match for the thuggish local troops who aren't good for much other than killing and mutilating civilians. They'll stop the worst of the killing, install a new government and leave. In another few years, it'll happen all over again.
The Congression Black Caucus once again is good for a laugh in claiming Liberia's problem is "colonialism." Liberia was one of the very few sub-Saharan countries that never was a colony. The caucasian Dimocrats are a close second in arguing with a straight face that the only time the U.S. is justified in going to war is if we have absolutely no vital interests at stake. And those people think America will trust them with the government after 9-11??
