i>Gates is said to have hit two of them

2 hit for 3 shots, at night in the middle of a firefight. Not bad, not bad at all. Still room for improvement of course. 3 dead for 3 shots is the ideal to aim for for.

The police had no business confiscating this guy's guns. If he's not even suspected of a crime, and he'd have been arrested himself if there was any evidence of a crime, then he not only needs to have his guns, he has enemies you know, he has a right to keep and bear them under the US and South Carolina Constitutions (whose RKBA provision is identical to the second amendment) Did they provide a 24/7 armed guard on his house? I sort of doubt it.

This guy is a liberal's worse nightmare. A law abiding Black citizen with a gun and the will to use it to defend himself.

Accordiing to the story one was probably already down before Gates started firing. As for dead vs. wounded, the article doesn't say what kind of shells he had in his gun. But since he is a hunter it may well have been birdshot. I have a feeling if it was buckshot they would be dead.

Reuben Greenberg is a liberal's worst nightmare too:

Successful police chief Reuben Greenberg of Charleston, South Carolina, said in a June, 1994 interview with Rush Limbaugh:

You know, the root causes of crime were supposed to be poverty, unemployment, a poor education, this, that, and the other. Yet 90% of the people with those same characteristics, both blacks and whites, somehow never wound up in the criminal justice system. So I started orienting ourselves toward the protection of those who follow the rules and regulations of society, rather than those who would victimize other people in the community. It is not an excuse to say, "Well I came from the wrong side of town, and I am black, and my great-grandfather was owned by this person." Yeah, that’s true, but these other guys had great-grandfathers who were owned by this person as well, but they are not criminals. They are out working and paying taxes.
The first step in restoring law and order is to recognize that a lack of money and opportunity does not cause crime. A lack of values causes crime. Only by firmly focusing on the real cause can a solution be achieved."

I lived in W.A. for about 6 years, the last 2 less than a mile up from Tripe St. My kids went to school just a few blocks away. It's too bad that neighborhood has gotten crappier.
