SUMMARY: Advocates for transgender rights hailed two developments on Monday that extended nondiscrimination protections for transgender people in Pennsylvania and San Diego.

Advocates for transgender rights hailed two developments on Monday that extended nondiscrimination protections for transgender people in Pennsylvania and San Diego.

In Pennsylvania, Gov. Ed Rendell signed an executive order that bars discrimination among state employees based on "gender identity or expression." Rendell, a Democrat, called the order "an important step for the recognition of personal dignity and freedom."

The San Diego City Council on Monday also added the words "gender identity" to its Human Dignity Ordinance, which bans workplace discrimination. San Diego is now the seventh city or county in California to institute such workplace protections, according to the Human Rights Campaign (HRC).

Pennsylvania is the second state in recent months to expand transgender rights by a governor's executive order. In May, Kentucky Gov. Paul Patton signed an order that prohibits discrimination against gay and transgender state workers.

"This executive order along with yesterday's passage in San Diego of a local nondiscrimination law is another step in our increasingly inevitable march to transgender equality and freedom in the United States," Mara Kiesling, executive director of the National Center for Transgender Equality, told the Gay.com / PlanetOut.com Network.

Kiesling is also co-chair of the Pennsylvania Gender Rights Coalition.

"These important moves echo what millions of Americans already believe, that all people -- including our transgender brothers and sisters -- should be able to go to work without the fear of discrimination," said Seth Kilbourn, HRC's national field director.

I was going to make a joke about Sean Penn brandishing a shotgun, but then that picture scared the hell out of me.

This does nothing at all to protect the rights of the genetically "socially blind" among us who can't always see the critical differences they are supposed to use to make sure they don't discriminate.

Let me get this straight...little girls might have a 'gene' that tell them that boys hair is short? And that girls 'genes' have a 'I want to wear a dress' code; which transgenders don't have?

Wow! this is a scientific break! But we better inform the rest of planet earth that has all kinds of hair styles and clothing styles for males and females from ours that their children are mutants...

What a stupid, stupid governmental order...

It is more than stupidity. It is a cultural war declared on 10,000 years of civilization by a small group of perverts.

Gov. Ed Rendell signed an executive order

The tyranny of the left. The people's representatives have no say.

Disgusting.

Transgenders need to be placed in a sanitarium someplace where they can get treatment. They are some sick puppies.

Do you ever feel that we, as a society, as just going 'outta our friking' minds? What's next, I want the government to protect my right to dress up as a potato... (opps, sorry Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head...)

(And to have my own public school...and marriage...and adoption...and bishops...and....and....)

Yes.

And we were absolutely out of our minds here in PA to ever elect Rendell as Governor.

Where my sister lives in Pa, there was a big flap a couple of years ago about a male school bus driver who wore dresses to work.

Jorge is a pretty smart guy!....well, I never said he was dumb! This is just so out of character for him. I'm shocked, he almost sounds fed up like the rest of us Freepers. I expected to see a /sarcasm after his remark!

It seems it would make more sense to train the brain to recognize and accept the gender of the body, rather than to mutilate the body into a grotesque freak to pacify the freaking sick brain.

Don't worry, THEY will try to convince US that WE are the ones who are looking at this from the wrong perspective...when it is really THEM.

(kinda like a - who's on first strategy....)
