Find a range that gives instruction to newbies and do yourself a favor and go.
I never thought I had in me either. Women are supposed to be nurturers, not killers, right? A bad personal experience changed my mind. I now have a CCW and carry everywhere I go that's "legal." I have had professional, NRA training and .45MAN and I go to the range often to practice.
It's amazing the strength one finds in oneself when necessary.
OK, down off my soapbox. Any time you'd like any additional info, including details on personal experiences, feel free to FReepmail me. Have a great evening!

I've shot before. I've shot a beretta and a glock. My friend tried teaching me the year I moved into my own apartment (before Frank). He was nervous that I would be living on my own and really wanted me to get a gun. I went quite a few times to a place called The Bullet Hole, a range in Belleville.
Needless to say, I was not a good student. Nervous as hell. Never got used to the kick from the fire. I hated every minute of it.
