Somehow I doubt that. I make a conscious effort to not waste my time.
I was thinking, "THESE AREN'T KIDDIE CARTOONS!" personally.
Somehow I doubt that. I make a conscious effort to not waste my time.
No, you see, part of the problem is that you don't get to be a Posting Nazi without due explanation or reason.
You have no authority to judge us, nor do you have authority, moral or otherwise, to dictate to us what we will or will not post about, so long as we follow JimRob's rules. You will recall that there is a "culture and society" section? You will also recall that there is a section dedicated to events in Japan?
Now that that has been settled, the only thing I really have to say to you is this: next time you post, make an effort to understand what you are trying to post about. Don't come here and scream "kiddie cartoons" as if it actually means something. It doesn't. The great director Hayao Miyazaki is revered by every director in Hollywood. Spielberg himself declared that the chase scene from Lupin III's Castle of Cagliostro was the best chase scene in the history of film. Matrix had several homages to Ghost In the Shell within the frame of the picture.
If you want to indulge in personal insults and think that that carries an argument, go right ahead. But really, without any knowledge to go by, all you're doing is clapping with one hand.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
I did give my reason for posting to mhking: Namely, that his ping list involves interesting, bizarre or (sometimes) tragic commentaries on the follies of humanity. Hence the former "hold muh beer" alert. Again, this thread is barely worthy of serious debate on its' own merits, much less his ping list. It might as well be a commentary on Loony Toons.
You have no authority to judge us... Blah blah blah...
I have all the authority I need to judge you. I have the ability to logically think, analyze and ultimately reject your childish interests. I even have the right to express my rejection of your interests. While you may disagree with my particular opinion, you may NOT disagree with my right to express said opinion. Nice try...
You will recall that there is a "culture and society" section? You will also recall that there is a section dedicated to events in Japan?
Yeah, I know about the "culture and society" section. I certainly didn't know about the section dedicated to Japan. Of course, I really don't care about Japan. Frankly, they're producers of cheap electronics, overpriced cars Hondas (commonly referred to as Lexus), and unethical business practices (after working with them closely for eight years, in a variety of venues). For all I could care, Japan could sink into the ocean, and I wouldn't give a rats' patootie.
I responded to mhking (as stated above), saying that this debate on cartoons is substandard for his ping list. I still stand by that statement. That you fail to recognize the implacable nature of what I have said, simply reflects an immaturity on your part. A personal problem you must deal with...
Now that that has been settled...
Indeed, it is settled.
People who try to get "the last word in" usually never fail to make fools of themselves. Case in point, our local turd in the punchbowl, Capitalist Eric......

Which says rather little, actually. All you were saying, as if it were objective fact, is that this thread does not deserve to be on FR. Naturally, the rest of us disagree. We also happen to know a whole hell of a lot more about this subject than you do. Indeed, a lurker on this forum sent me the following mail....
"You might inform the guy that the "Loony Tunes" -- actually "Looney Tunes" -- were, at their best, short, sharp masterpieces mastermined by directors Chuck Jones, Friz Freleng, Robert McKimson Bob Clampett and others, all backed up by an army of voice, musical and artistic. They were not "Kiddie Cartoons."
So now, it appears, you are making commentary about something you know little about, and compounding your error by using something else you know little about as an example.
All at once, we can be grateful that you aren't in power. Remember, Al Gore always thought he was the smartest man in any room he was in. He pontificated on things he knew little about, and throughout his career, made a shining ass of himself.
He was wrong, of course. Sorry, Eric, but perhaps you should have learned from Al Gore's example.
I have all the authority I need to judge you. I have the ability to logically think, analyze and ultimately reject your childish interests. I even have the right to express my rejection of your interests. While you may disagree with my particular opinion, you may NOT disagree with my right to express said opinion. Nice try...
Oh, Jesus. I'm sorry. I forgot that a pompous ass and his reputation are soon parted. Much like a fool and his money, I might add. Eric, no one gives a rat's ass what you think about Japanese animation. Do you want to know why?
See, here's the dead giveaway...
I have the ability to logically think, analyze and ultimately reject your childish interests.
You might have that ability, Eric. On a very good day. But you didn't use it, did you? Had you had an ounce of curiosity, you might have "wasted your time" finding out more about Japanese animation instead of casually dismissing it out of hand. You did not think, you did not analyze, so your rejection was, to be charitable, premature. Nope, not for you. Instead, you decided on boorish pigheadedness and pomposity.
Much sound and fury, signifying nothing.
You analyzed nothing. Would you casually dismiss wine or cigars without having learned something about them? One would hope not, but there you have it.That's what you haven't figured out yet. You can't even set up a proper straw man: no one here is denying you the right to express yourself as you have! Get off your crucifix, young man. No one here is trying to take away your God-given right to make an ass out of yourself in public.
Why would any of us anime fans on this thread want to do that?
But I'm done with you yet, Eric. You don't get off that easily. Nope, there's always the guy who leaves plenty of rope to hang himself with.....
Yeah, I know about the "culture and society" section. I certainly didn't know about the section dedicated to Japan. Of course, I really don't care about Japan. You know, ignorance must be bliss, Eric, because I can tell you're a very happy man. But it's time to open up the can of whoop ass on Eric the genius:
Of course, I really don't care about Japan.
You sir, are an ignorant prat. You said above...
I have the ability to logically think, analyze and ultimately reject your childish interests.
Sure you do, Eric. We believe you. Indeed, we admire your catlike reflexes as you comment on something you know nothing about, the source of which is a society you don't care about. Since you don't care about it, Eric, you haven't studied that society. Since you haven't studied Japan at all, because yo do not care to, what standing do you have to make informed, articulate argument about any aspect of that society? Given the salient fact that you know nothing about that society's culture, politics, or history?Aside from your "right" to post here on FR, of course.
But I'm starting to have fun. Let's continue. This is where it gets real good.
Frankly, they're producers of cheap electronics, overpriced cars Hondas (commonly referred to as Lexus), and unethical business practices (after working with them closely for eight years, in a variety of venues).
Japanese electronic devices are among the finest in the world, and have almost without fail, rigorous quality control built into them. They are also priced much higher than Chicom, Korean, Thai, or Indonesian products, a fact which has led several of the major Japanese combines to begin outsourcing manufacturing to stay competitive. If you knew what you were talking about, you wouldn't have made that statement.
The Lexus is a product of the Nissan Motor Corporation, not Honda. Not that I want to take away from your intellectual reputation, Eric, but you walked right into that one. Toyota's upmarket procuct is called the Infiniti. Honda, I believe, and I'm not 100% sure, produces the Acura. All three companies tend to produce most upmarket models for the American market in the United States as a cost saving measure.
I don't know how closely you worked with them, Eric, but it must have been an on and off affair. People who tend to work closely with Japanese and experience Japanese culture tend to have a lot more respect for the Japanese and their society than you have demonstrated. Your rantings, indeed, betray a profound ignorance of Japanese culture. You seem to have learned less than you believe. As to their business practices? Fair is for Girl Scouts, Eric. Business is cutthroat all over Asia. Whining about unethical business practices won't keep you in the game.
I responded to mhking (as stated above), saying that this debate on cartoons is substandard for his ping list. I still stand by that statement. That you fail to recognize the implacable nature of what I have said, simply reflects an immaturity on your part. A personal problem you must deal with..
No, Eric. You're simply a pompous ass who thinks a bit too much of himself, that's all.
"the implacable nature of what I have said"? Hmmm, Eric, you're getting closer and closer to....
Look, at bottom, you're a legend in your own mind. Sort of like Al Gore. You may be good at some things, but you're not good at this one thing, Eric. So take my advice, go get a drink, and try to remember not to attempt to make some sort of a judgement about something you know little, if anything, about. Oh sure, you can post. Noone here is denying you that precious right, your protestations of victimhood notwithstanding. But at least in this case, it has had the effect of placing a blowtorch up your rectum and pulling the trigger.
"That you fail to recognize the implacable nature of what I have said, simply reflects an immaturity on your part.".
What a self-important blowhard you are, Eric. And what a howler you left us. I'm left with only one thing to say to you, Eric.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
My, my, my.... How hypocritical, that after accusing me (erroneously) of making personal attacks, you immediately resort to them. How puerile.
But then again, I didn't expect much else. At least this personal attack- at the beginning of your post- allowed me to avoid wasting further time on your bloviations.
You prove my point- that such cartoons are vacuous, and empty. And that they are the fodder of equally vacuous, empty-headed consumers- your pretentious claims notwithstanding.
