And really it shouldn't matter who penned it, at least not to me. Anyone who feels they have to believe that a Marine wrote this letter in Iraq, then that is fine for them, I suppose. It's much more important to uphold the values of the nation which the letter-writer came from than it is to uphold the illusion that it was a Marine who penned it.

I highly doubt this letter is legit. But even if it is why would FR accept it knowing that any signed negative letter or email from a trooper in Iraq cold result in a court martial or other punishment? We have seen the abuse given to family members who complain about their husbands or relatives stays in Iraq on this site first hand.
