Son of Democratic Presidential Candidate Faces Accessory to Burglary Charge The Associated Press Published: Aug 5, 2003
BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Police said that while four teens tried to break into a country club to get liquor, the 17-year-old son of Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean waited at the wheel of the getaway car. For his alleged role, Paul Dean must now answer charges that he helped burglarize the Burlington Country Club during the early morning of June 20. He faces an accessory charge in the incident and was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
Described by his father as an "honor student," Paul Dean, who also is captain of his school hockey team, was with a group of classmates that police said were caught trying to steal beer from the country club.
Police allegedly spotted the younger Dean seated at the wheel of a car near the country club. After questioning him, they learned a burglary was in progress.
The four others face burglary charges.
It was unclear if Howard Dean would attend his son's court appearance. He had no public appearances scheduled Tuesday morning.
After his son's arrest, he said that Paul would have to face the consequences of his actions.
"He's going to have to go through the judicial system and they are going to figure out what to do about him and his friends," Dean said in late June.

They only report underaged drinking.

Either #1) There is "honor" in this act.
or
#2) The apple don't fall far from the tree.

Remember burglary is no big deal, but having a beer with your burrito platter?
Unforgivable.

Not exactly the same over-the-top coverage that the Bush twins were subjected to, is it? algore's son also has had several run-ins with the law, yet the mainstream press "won't go there." Wonder why?

He couldn't just pay a homeless guy to buy booze for him, like normal 17 year olds do?

It's interesting, the disparity in coverage.
But I didn't think this nonsense was relevant when Barbara and Jenna were getting busted for their various underage drinking violations, and I don't think this is relevant either.
I did some pretty stupid stuff when I was seventeen. My parents could have been the smartest people in the world, but short of handcuffing me to the drain-pipe, they were not going to keep me from getting into trouble.
Now if Dean trades on his position to influence the courts to go easy on his son, then you have a story...

Well stealing is nothing new for Democrats, all one has to do is think back to what they tried to do in 2000.

...and I don't think this is relevant either. You're right, definitely not relevant as to Dean. (He fails on his own merits.)
Besides, having relatives as thieves has never kept anyone out of the White House before.

(He fails on his own merits.) You'll get no argument from me there. I don't need an extra reason to vote against Howard Dean.

He couldn't just pay a homeless guy to buy booze for him, like normal 17 year olds do? I guess it's harder to get quality fake IDs than it was in my day. Whatsamatta, can't even bribe the illegal working the 7-11 counter anymore?

He must be ugly. It's not just a question of drinking or illegal behavior, It's "How does he look on TV?"
If he was a beautiful blonde or better yet, knock-out twins any excuse to bring them down will quell the already jealous masses.
If he is just some spoiled teen son on nasty side with a ugly face on TV, that doesn't help ratings.

I can see the campaign ads of the pubs only on for a day:
{picture of howard at the wheel of a car},,DO WE WANT THIS MAN AT THE WHEEL OF THE NATION?..then there will accusations of insensitivity, remarks about leaving the children out of the campaign, editorials over the hate filled pub campaign,,but the seed will be planted.

From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs.
They were just liberating that life-giving hootch from that eeeevil rich, white, priviledged country club, to distribute to the downtrodden, impoverished, underaged masses.

I do remember how Al Gore's son was charged with speeding at 100 mph and yet the press "submarined" that story because it happened during the week of the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles...
