August 6, 2003 -- Defiant Episcopal Church leaders last night scoffed at threats of a schism and elected their first openly gay bishop - just hours after clearing the clergyman of two sex-tainted accusations.

Church bishops voted 62 to 45 to confirm New Hampshire Bishop-elect Gene Robinson, who has been living with his male lover for 13 years. Conservative foes immediately vowed to boycott the rest of the week's convention in Minneapolis - and headed across the street to a Lutheran church to pray.

The stunning vote came after a top bishop probing one sex-harassment accusation against Robinson interviewed the clergyman's accuser - and concluded that when Robinson touched the man at a church event in 1999, it was not sexual in nature.

While the accuser, who was there, and on the receiving end, concluded that it was.

I guess that's what's known as a selective selection process....

Someone was pushing for Robinson, and they weren't going to let a little thing like sexual harassment stand in their way.

This is so big. What a church has done is made religous a "Politically correct" issue.

IT's not.

We have been taught all our young lifes and into adult life that our faith is a ROCK. Unchanging, unwavering. Sin is sin. We can be forgiven. WE are to hate the sin, forgive the sinner. But we were also taught that when you sin, and you ask for forgiveness,.. you didn't just go out doing it again and again slapping it in the face of the Father. To do so, means you weren't really asking for forgiveness in the first place.

A man or a woman who asks for forgiveness for committing adultery, stops for a bit.. then does it repeatedly, IS NOT FORGIVEN. Because they are still committing the sin!!!

Many churches saw a drop in attendance. Sadly they did not know why. It was because they started to wander away from the written word. Ignoring 1st Timothy. Creating splits in their churches because of it. Then the recent Presbyterian business, regarding allowing sexually active people to be Mininisters, and allowing Homosexuals to be Ministers. It did not pass. But I can assure you, it hurt the church, because our local Minister would not take a stand on it. Because he must believe it is ok.

I heard Dr. Charles Stanley on TV say, we aren't called on to be "Politically correct" (PC), we are called to obey the word of God. It has served us well for centuries, is fits every generation. It doesn't need changing. We do....

From the things we are seeing on tv, to what is being tried right under our noses, it is clear the evil one is winning on this earth. I've had my two grandchildren ages 7 (8 in 2 weeks) and 7 in Nov. here. We watch the News. They stop and look at the tv. when they hear DURING PRIME TIME TV News ALERTS about a GAY Episcipilian Mininster being voted in as Biship and how it may split the churh. I told the almost 8 year old, I pray it will split the church. Because it is a sin, and it is wrong.

God protect us, as we start endorsing this kind of deviant behavior.

BTW,.. I might as well come out with it now. All my life I've wanted to be rich. REALLY rich. I know its not right, but I think the only way I'm EVER going to be able to do that.. is to steal money. I feel this URGE. I've felt it as a child. I can no LONGER put off that URGE. I know most Americans don't FEEL like I do. I know it says in the Bible I shouldn't. But since we are being so FORGIVING and UNDERSTANDING,.. I'm sure people will understand when I start giving in to this primal instinct I'm feeling. It is an URGE I can NO LONGER DENY...and why should I HAVE TO??? I WANT MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Liberals are not going to allow a little thing like untoward sex to stand in their way of shoving gay values down the throats of Christians who ought to know better.

The alleged victim - prominent married lay minister David Lewis of Manchester, Vt. - had charged in an e-mail to bishops Sunday that the "grab-assing skirt chaser" Robinson repeatedly touched him lewdly.

Shouldn't he have said "grab-assing pants chaser"?

I truly believe, and fervently hope, that the Episcopal Church will lose at least 25% of its parishoners over this. For a church to flagrantly defy God and pronounce it as good is heartbreaking.

David Lewis was just a dirty old homophobe. Nothing to see here and its time to move one.

Baptized an Episcopalian, confirmed an Episcopalian and attended the church for about 40 years. Then I became a Christian and left the church.

I heard recently that there are more Anglicans in Nigeria than all the rest of the world. I can believe that since there they still believe in Christ. The Episcopalian church is corrupt to its core. They do not care or see they are dying. They only want to make a point that they are god and have the truth. The sin of Satan, to think we are equal to God.

... Lewis yesterday "indicated he had no desire to pursue the matter any further"

A good writer could make one h--- of an unnerving novel based on those 13 words.

Wow! And so it begins...

one thing that galls me is the gay Bishops blindness to the fact his`mere presence within the clergy is divisive to the body. The Bible is quite clear how the Spirit departs when contention arises.

for this very fact alone this pervert should have excused himself from consideration. However, its plainly obvious his goals are agenda driven......to the destruction of the church.

.......and we wonder why new Christians hate corporate worship

The Episcopal Church, which split into many conservative factions following the 1976 General Convention held in St. Louis, will now be irrevocably split between conservatives and liberals. Since 1978 the battle over church property has been fierce; now it is likely to be even more contentious.

I guess the Episcopals believe that Gods Word is a "living document" just as leftists believe our Constitution is a "living document", subject to change at a whim.

(WARNING: ANTI ANGLICAN/EPISCOPALIAN RHETORIC)

What do the Anglican Communion and the old "Seinfeld" TV show have in common? They are about nothing!

I see no theological or spiritual relevance in a church that can only claim its origin to a fat, womanizing English king who wanted to divorce his queen under questionable circumstances despite the Pope's refusal to approve it. So, out goes the Papally-appointed Archbishop of Canterbury, and in comes a lackey of the king.

Episcopalians may enjoy the Catholic-like pomp and circumstance in their ritual and worship, but when it comes to standing behind true Christian morals, zip, zero, nada. It should be a no-brainer to Episcopal clergy that Scripture vehemently condemns homosexual conduct. Then, why elect a bishop whose conducts is clearly anti-Scriptural?

To all you decent Episcopalians out there who are fuming over the election of a sodomite bishop: the Vatican strongly came out recently against same-sex unions (a very timely declaration). What should you do? Hint: Cardinal Newman.
