As stated to me by many black girls attending Metro Campus of Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, having a baby is a ticket out of poverty. Food stamps, housing, ADC, it all comes with having a baby. Then, the daycare is paid for while mom goes to college on the taxpayer.
That was 1982. Guess who are the mothers of the girls of today? Having a baby while still in high school is the norm for many black girls. And black women take care of their own children (most of the black women I know feel that all financial support for children is on the mom, if a man wants to help, great) so men are really not needed.
However, if that "mass of cells" gets in the way, there is an easy way out.
