...it's not HE...Ok, it is a shaped charge warhead, but there is 24 kg of HE in it. Not ideal against soft targets, but I wouldn't want one going off anywhere near me.

If there was anyone still alive in that building, watching this scene from the reverse angle, they definitely knew they were having a bad day.

Considering Newsmax's usual newsgathering methods, I'm amazed that photo doesn't have "© StrangeCosmos.com" superimposed in the bottom left corner. LOL! Best. Comment. Ever.

Ya gotta admire the Iraqi urban planners. Get a load of those double-wide, Humvee accomodating sidewalks.
To: CyberAnt
The guy who owned it was a RELATIVE OF SADDAM'S; a cousin or uncle I think. That should account for it. Nepotism, thy name is Ba'ath...
To: AAABEST
I agree. I doubt the missile is what killed Uday. Per the press reports, a Delta Force Commando standing over him and pumping two rounds into his mouth is the more likely cause of death.

I agree with you on not wanting to be near one. They're developing one for bunkers. About time as we've been using them for such all along anyway.
Better check your stats on the amount of HE in the warhead. I believe it's only a few Kilos (which is all you need to light a tank up) I'll stand corrected if you show me otherwise though.

Better check your stats on the amount of HE in the warhead. Here is where I got my info. It says "Warhead weight 12.4 kg", so I'm definately wrong, and I don't know if the whole weight is HE or if that includes the liner, casing, detonator, etc. (I obviously got my figures messed up.) Oh well. In any case, I don't want to be on the receiving end of one kilo or 12. Boom - Hussein brothers go splat!

At the risk of sounding like an ass, I'm relatively sure it's probably just a few pounds (about 5) of actual "go boom" material.
Next time you watch footage of one lighting up an armored vehicle watch closely. You'll see the majority of the destruction is in the seconary blast, most of what's contained is dedicated towards "drilling" through the armor.
Although as you point out, everything inside dies as a result of the primary. So I suppose there's no point in me engaging in my engaging minutae here. The result is all the same.

Newsmax was rather slow in obtaining their pic, I posted that picture on FR on our
Operation Infinite Freedom thread on 7/25/03 via Yahoo News via Reuters. Come visit our thread sometime.
A TOW missile streaks toward a building suspected by the U.S. Army of harboring Saddam Hussein's sons Qusay and Uday in Mosul, Iraq, on July 22, 2003. The United States expects to pay the full $30 million reward to the informant whose tip allowed the U.S. military to locate and kill former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's sons Uday and Qusay, a senior U.S. official said on July 25.
