What a waste of taxpayer money - just say "guilty" & move on...

I will give 'em credit for one thing, though: they seem to be the ultimate do-it-yourself couple. I'm surprised they didn't build the car she was driving...

Curious. What does "failure to obey a police officer" tend to include. If I pull over and insist that I refuse to cooperate with the officer about a random car search until after I contact my lawyer...is that a failure? Sure he may take me to jail, but if I cooperate with the arrest, is that failure? Or what about insisting that a supervisor show up first to verify an officer is real? Is that failure?

Obviously none of these are going to make friends, but I should be within my rights to act in such a manner.

I guess that her sect leaves out the "Render unto Ceasar" part of the Bible.

You have to obey the cop's orders when he pulls you over, even if you think his orders are on the unconstitutional side. You certainly have the right to turndown permission for them to search your car- they'll still search it, usually, but then they can't argue in court that you consented to the search- they'd have to prove probable cause to get anything they find admitted.

If you're not sure whether someone is a real cop, put on your hazards and find a gas station or some such place to pull over. Requesting a supervisor is legit if you're not sure that they're a real cop.

In her case, I think it included driving for over an hour with a trooper (and/or a sheriff's deputy) following her with flashing lights on, and part of the time with the siren going, too. It was reported that the officer also used the police car's P.A. speaker to tell her to pull over. BTW, she was in a convertible with the top down at the time.

I don't see the thread that was active this morning for all the details. You could try a search. You can probably find more of the details in previous threads.

>>>I'm surprised they didn't build the car she was driving<<<

Maybe it was a custom car indeed.
Um, I nursed my babies, and for the life of me,
I can't imagine how she did it while driving, unless she's veeery skinny a la Ali McBeal, with veeeery long legs to reach the pedals.

Henderson NV is one of those places on my ACCOTFB (Apostolic Charismatic Church of the First Born) list.

Bill Clinton's daddy, Billy Blythe, was a member of COTFB.

Oh, she seemed pretty bonkers when I saw her on TV. She and her husband seemed to believe that laws, in general, do not apply to them, since they consider themselves to be "self-regulated".

Of course, for a "self-regulated" individual, she was behaving like quite the brain-dead self-absorbed socker mom, endangering not only herself and her baby, but the other drivers on the turnpike.

Too late. She already was.

I once knew a woman who'd polish her fingernails while driving, but this is even worse.

This was today's thread--and this post has a link to a previous thread where her husband/non-husband shows up. The consensus is that he's nuttier than a fruitcake.

Catherine Nicole Donkers — a member of an obscure religious sect who maintains that driver's licenses should not be required — described the card as an affidavit, Sgt. Michael A. Harmon said.

Clearly, brains are not a prerequisite either. Breastfeeding while driving? She was probably steering with her knees too!
