To purchase a firearm you just fill out the BATF form. No state permits are required. Ammo, nothing required.

For a conceal carry permit you fill out a simple 1 page form and pay a few bucks ($25 if I remember correcty). I got my CCW in about 2 days. The officer delivered it to the house personally (apparently that's part of the deal). Good for 4 years.

I think NH permits are now good in about 8 states. Unfortunately I never go to any of them save Florida once in a while.

for your CCW do you have to express a direct need for it? i think i would be ok with a Mass license but one never knows.
