Al Gore, still clueless
The Boston Herald ^ | 8/9/03 | Editorial

Dare we hope that somebody will offer Al Gore a real job? Selling slacks and jackets in ``earth tones'' in a haberdashery perhaps?

Gore's speech Thursday, arranged by a group opposed to the war against Iraq, shows that he doesn't have a clue about the nation's problems.

It's particularly offensive to hear Gore claim that U.S. soldiers are dying because of the miscalculations, mistakes and misjudgments of the Bush administration. Every administration makes mistakes in fighting wars, and those mistakes mean soldiers get killed.

The question ought to be: What were the alternatives when the crucial decisions were made? Gore was at the heart of an administration that avoided confronting terror, refused to take custody of Osama bin Laden when offered the chance, and from all evidence ``wagged the dog'' by attacking Sudan when Monica Lewinsky was claiming the headlines. He's almost the last person on earth qualified to criticize tactics.

The former vice president's analogy between President Bush's rejection of the Kyoto treaty on global warming and the president's argument that Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction were a threat (Gore claimed that both showed selective use of evidence) amounts to intellectual dishonesty. What about the 95-0 Senate vote telling Gore's old boss, President Clinton, not to bother submitting the heavily flawed Kyoto agreement for ratification? What about the unanimous agreement of the U.N. Security Council (which couldn't agree on what to do) that Saddam's weapons were indeed a threat?

We fail to see how the Democrats are going to recapture the White House if loud nit-picking like this is the basis of their claim to the voters' favor.

You are exactly right. All this talk about the Democratic party imploding and being irrelevant is incredibly short-sighted and wholly inaccurate. How much belly laughter went on in 1992 at the thought of Bill Clinton, tawdry liar and hustler from Arkansas, being elected president? When he was, the cry was "he'll never be re-elected!" That went on for about three years until it became obvious that he would be. The fact is, any country that elected him twice cannot be watched closely enough. We stand a very real chance of having Hillary elected as president either next year or in five years. As repugnant as the thought is, it's reality.

You are so right on. To show you my complete disdain for this idiot, I used to pray that nothing happened to Clinton that would put this jerk in the white house. As bad as Clinton was, if nothing else, he was a smart man. I dont think Gore has a rational ounce of gray matter.

I thing he'd be better in the cosmetic department selling make-up.

He's ready for his interview at Macy's cosmetic department and then he's heading over to meet with his new group of constituents garnered by Bishop Robinson at the Episcopal church.

Not only does he not have a clue about solving the nation's problems, he is not in touch with reality. I heard excerpts of his speech, and all i could think was, "this guy wants us to know that he doesn't approve of us going to war in Iraq; he apparently doesn't realize that we WENT to war and WON". now THAT's clueless!
