A key figure in the investigation of alleged political corruption in Brooklyn has suddenly quit her $80,000-a-year job in Comptroller Bill Thompson's office, The Post has learned.

Jacqueline Ward, a longtime confidante of Brooklyn Democratic leader Clarence Norman, submitted her resignation Wednesday afternoon.

Sources say Hynes wants to ask Ward about the $153,610 she collected as a campaign consultant to Norman and the candidates he supported in 2001. Also, more than $95,000 of the $245,000 Mark Green's mayoral campaign provided Norman's Thurgood Marshall Democratic Club ended up in Ward's bank account, documents show.

Maybe the DA thinks the money was going to mysteriously creep over into Norman's personal bank account? The Brooklyn DA is so unreasonable. Where does the DA think Brooklyn money grows? On trees?

I wonder if this comes via a serious investigation of the crime and corruption going on in Brooklyn, or are these merely small time flunkies being tossed over the side to make it look good. I hope it's the former- there's so much corruption there that the task to clean it up is monutmental like the Augean Stables (only more disgusting.) Where's Hercules when you need him?

Political corruption's worst fallout is the cynicism it breeds in the citizenry.
