FARMINGTON -- Jan Stevenson plans a summer wedding, a small affair with 30 or 40 friends and family. She hasn't picked a chapel or even a city. But she has picked a country.

She and partner Susan Horowitz will marry next summer in Canada. The gay couple's union will be a ceremony laced with private sentiment and public symbolism.

If morality and history only ratcheted in one direction (leftward), we'd already be well past this point. It doesn't. It swings bank and forth. And the harder you push in one direction, the harder things swing back when they turn around and go the other way.

A friend of mine wrote this guy a letter. Here is his answer (she passed it onto me, asked me to post it here)
At least he answered. Nobody can dissect an argument better than freepers, have at it!!!

Thank you for your email. President Bush said that he was against gay marriage, but that we shouldn't be too hard on gays because

"I am mindful that we're all sinners, and I caution those who may try to take the speck out of their neighbor's eye when they got a log in their own,"

Overlooking his grammatical error, it's quite obvious what the president was saying. Yes, we are all sinners. You and I may have a variety of sins. The sin of gays is homosexuality. It's a belief that , according to your email, you also hold.

As an example, say the president had been talking about President Clinton's sexual escapades in one sentence and, in the very next sentence, says, "I am mindful that we're all sinners, and I caution those who may try to take the speck out of their neighbor's eye when we got (sic) a log in their own." In this example, Bush is calling Clinton a sinner.

If you also disagree with that example, then our disagreement is over logic (whether B necessarily follows A), not the rules for quotations.

That being said, I'm a little confused about why a Christian would think that labeling someone a "sinner" is "mean" - shouldn't the president have the courage of your convictions? Wouldn't Bush be viewed as quoting traditional, classic theology?

As far as bias, I'd like to point out that the article quotes four people with pro-gay positions, and three (four counting Bush's "sinners" quotation) with anit-gay positions. That's pretty even-handed, considering the point of the story was to talk to gays about what it's like to be gay today. A biased article would include only one side of the argument. This article clearly presents both.

To answer your request, there will be no clarification. No one was misquoted, and no one was portrayed as "mean."

Your bored by this? Congratulations from the Human Rights Campaign (not all humans, mind)! That's just what they want. If they clobber Americans over the head with their "agenda" long enough, perhaps many will fall by the wayside. Those left standing can be dismissed as Christian fanatics or bigoted illiterates. I doubt it will take "many generations". Religion. Politics. Education. Media. They've got those, now all they need is for the rest of us to shut up and go away.

"This is all part of their left-wing agenda to destroy the American family and the traditional values we hold dear."

Exactly. It's part of a well planned and well funded campaign that has been going on for years:

An excerpt from: In Their Own Words: The Homosexual Agenda:

"Homosexual activist Michelangelo Signorile, who writes periodically for The New York Times, summarizes the agenda in OUT magazine: fight for same-sex marriage and its benefits and then, once granted, redefine the institution of marriage completely, to demand the right to marry not as a way of adhering to society's moral codes, but rather to debunk a myth and radically alter an archaic institution... The most subversive action lesbian and gay men can undertake --and one that would perhaps benefit all of society--is to transform the notion of family entirely." "Its the final tool with which to dismantle all sodomy statues, get education about homosexuality and AIDS into the public schools and in short to usher in a sea change in how society views and treats us."

An excerpt from: The Overhauling of Straight America:

"While public opinion is one primary source of mainstream values, religious authority is the other. When conservative churches condemn gays, there are only two things we can do to confound the homophobia of true believers. First, we can use talk to muddy the moral waters. This means publicizing support for gays by more moderate churches, raising theological objections of our own about conservative interpretations of biblical teachings, and exposing hatred and inconsistency. Second, we can undermine the moral authority of homophobic churches by portraying them as antiquated backwaters, badly out of step with the times and with the latest findings of psychology. Against the mighty pull of institutional Religion one must set the mightier draw of Science and Public Opinion (the shield and word of that accursed “secular humanism”). Such an unholy alliance has worked well against churches before, on such topics as divorce and abortion. With enough open talk about the prevalence and acceptability of homosexuality, that alliance can work again here..."

An excerpt from: Homosexual Priests: A Time for Truth:

"The homosexual movement has a history of trying to claw its way into places its agenda doesn’t belong, not for the betterment of mankind, but simply to legitimize and normalize perverse behavior. This is apparent in the all-too-common need of homosexuals to declare their sexuality rather than simply do the job they sign on to do.

The homosexual movement is marked by two major tendencies: the tendency to continually infiltrate all good aspects of society; and once they have achieved that, the tendency to destroy this good. Public education, the Boy Scouts, the military, and now the Catholic Church have been targeted, and all have been hurt by the effects of homosexuality. The media and the Church must break its silence towards this enemy. If they do not, the people themselves must rise up and expose it..."

Look. It basically goes this way.

The koran-based radical terrorists in the middle east in large part have disdain for America because they read in their Arabic press reports such as these, or see photos of American homosexuals or lesbians on religious altars getting 'married'.

Their disdain carries through to attacks on American interests, since (in their minds) we are 'decadent' and deserving of annihilation as unclean animals, and while this is not any kind of apologetic reasoning for that behavior, it DOES explain what they think about us and we can be damned sure the MORE we do decline as a society and appear corrupt to a large segment of the world, the more we can expect disdain and terrorist attacks. I draw a DIRECT correlation.

When you're explaining something, use i.e., which is short for id est, or "that is." I can never remember the Latin, so I cheat here. "In essence" starts with the same letters.

Interesting... I've always remembered the meaning of e.g. by thinking of it as "example(s) given".

The homonazis can't be ignored any more...

The homo agenda...
...includes not only complete acceptance but also acceptance of homo-ness as asuperior way of life.
...makes little room for condemnation of pedophilia.
...does not openly admit that the gay lifestyle is clearly more dangerous and injurous than a heterosexual lifestyle. worse than what it appears...they are coming after the children...they want to lower the age of consent.

exempli gratia, which means "for the sake of example" in Latin.

I've always remembered the meaning of e.g. by thinking of it as "example(s) given".

exampli gratia - examples given

I think your way of remembering is much easier than remembering "for the sake of example" and is probably a better translation.

I've been tolerant up to a point....their civil rights should be protected like everyone else's, but now that they have tried to co-opt and compromise Holy Matrimony, they have gone toooo far. The backlash is starting, and hopefully a lot of them will retreat to their closets, as in olden days, when gentlemen of all kinds did not flaunt their lifestyles and shove their private lives into our faces.

The homo agenda is WAY worse than most people think it to be, even those who realize that sodomy is not natural or normal. The Nazis philosophy was based on "homo-erotic" Neizche-esque might-is-right crap. Homosexuals are getting very militant and aggressive, and dominance is their goal.
