Wake up pal. The jobs section of my local newspaper (and I'll bet yours too) is full of job offerings. If you lost your job, look or train for another one. Don't expect government to bail you out. Businesses create jobs, not government bureaucrats. Thank god Bush is trying to cut taxes to let businesses expand. Vote for the candidates who are pro-business, not the ones who promise to take care of everyone.

Good post, Driftless.

I'll point out that I'm in the process of starting a business myself. And I can assure everyone here that unless something dramatic changes, I will never hire a single employee. I have no problem paying someone a dollar for a dollar's worth of work. But when it costs me $1.50 to pay someone $1, it's pretty clear to me that there is something deeply flawed in this country's "business model."

I've been out of work for four months and didn't get more than one callback out of about 50 jobs I applied to for the first two months. Then I picked up a book on how to effectively search for jobs, spruced up my resume for about two days, and started sending my resume out again, and have gotten about 6 callbacks in the last six weeks, which isn't too bad.
