Police want pot crusader barred from stations

Shaughn Butts, The Journal / Followers look on as Marc Emery smokes up Sunday.

EDMONTON - Wearing a conservative blue suit, B.C. marijuana activist Marc Emery lit up a water pipe in front of Edmonton police headquarters Sunday afternoon and was promptly arrested.

The leader of the B.C. Marijuana Party contends poss ession laws no longer exist because of recent Ontario court decisions.

Before lighting up, Emery said the fact that people can be political and take action makes Canada "the greatest place on Earth."

Two Edmonton police constables stepped into the crowd and led Emery inside, to a chorus

of boos and jeers from about three dozen supporters who decried the arrest as unconstitutional.

Federal Crown prosecutors have told Edmonton police that laws prohibiting marijuana possession are still in effect, said Insp. Dick Shantz. Officers charged Emery with a single count of pot possession.

Police also tried to stop Emery's campaign by asking that a Canadawide ban preventing him from going to police stations unless he has a legitimate complaint be made one condition of his release.

"We're getting tired of dealing with him," Shantz said. "He's tying up our manpower with his illegal crusade and we're not going to put up with it."

Others were also smoking marijuana but Shantz said no one else was arrested because police did not have the manpower.

Emery, publisher of the magazine Cannabis Culture, was arrested in Calgary on Saturday.

He was earlier arrested in Winnipeg, Regina, Moncton, N.B., and St. John's, Nfld. He was not arrested at stops this summer in Toronto and Charolettetown, P.E.I.

My response was very relevant. Here it is: Never bother citing simple observation and plain common sense to people who have addled their minds with durgs I guess.

Out of consideration, I left the typo in so you would have something to respond to. Once we remove the word "alcohol" from the conversation potheads have no creative points to make. Personally, I am not a big fan of alcohol, but since a large majority of the population wants it legal I dan't see much point in crusading against it. Since a majority of the population wants pot illegal, I recognize the futility of trying to legalize it.

Once again you chose to fixate on a typo because you had not intelligent response. Pathetic. With great minds like yours working to legalize drugs, I am confident that drugs will remain outlawed for the forseeable future. I can run my posts through a spell-checker. You'll always be stupid.

Yeah, you would like me to believe that you made the mistake on purpose.

What a loser! Have another beer. Or are you doing shots now?

On the contrary, the point is, there is no value in continuing the WOD when success is impossible. We are throwing away money. Economics 101 - Suppy and Demand. Study it. The Prohibition makes a great case study.

If they really wanted to end the drug problem, they would legalize and regulate. Any idiot knows that would kill the supply side and run the dealers out of business.

How many millionaire bootleggers do you know?

Next he'll take up buggering his boyfriend on the sidewalk in front of police stations

You seem to have an unnatural interest in such activities.

This logic does not work. Were drugs legal, your simple rule of suply & demands would lead to... you guessed it... more drug use! Alcohol use decreased by 50% during Prohibition professor.

Not at all. I'm saying that the definition you provided was dishonest and self-serving. This is exactly the type of charachter trait that get someone mixed up with drugs in the first place.

Seriously, you're not making any sense. Demand drives supply. Demand would not increase (as it has been proven in the Netherlands) when drugs are made legal. The market would be flooded with drugs, which would cause the prices to drop, causing the dealers to go out of business. It's simple really. The government doesn't want the WOD to end, and you have no idea what you're talking about.

Your argument that access leads to drug use just can't be proven. In fact, the opposite has been proven in Europe already.

"Sorry. All of you guys smell alike to me."

Yet another witty riposte by a guy whose chief observation about American public life is regarding the utter futility of attempting to buck public opinion, whatever it might happen to be.

Now there's a fine example of civic courage!

Nonsense. People did it where it couldn't be counted. Just like drugs.

You are mistaken. Please provide evidence for your research. The Netherlands has had to deal with a huge influx of drug-induced immigration. Amsterdam is a cesspool.

Yet another righteous observation with someone who morally equates laws against mind destroying drugs with slavery.

Nice cop-out. Provide evidence to the contrary or accept it as fact. Less people drank during Prohibition. More knowledgable Pro Drug activists than yourself conceed this.

Please provide evidence for your research.

I'll give you some links tonight if I remember. You can just as easily do a Google search as I can. But you must also provide evidence that shows demand increases when supply increases as it relates to drugs.
