I wouldn't be so sure about that yet. Here is an excerpt from today's article in New Jersey Star Ledger:
Evidence against Lakhani includes hours of audio and videotapes in which he discusses the plot, speaks favorably of Osama bin Laden and refers to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks as "a good thing," according to another federal law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity. All three suspects were expected to appear Wednesday in federal court in Newark, officials said.
What an ass. Perhaps he should ask his union dock workers to increase the non-existent security on our docks. That's how they will be imported.
Ok chuckie you come up with a practical way to jam a **HEAT Seeking** missle on the us Commercial fleet of airliners and well do it.
Jamming the heat of those engines is much harder than jamming radar guided ones..
I imagine that plumbs the full depth of his intelligence.
So the only reason they busted this smuggler was for good press?
This is a big deal. It shows that we're attacking the terrorists' arms suppliers from both ends. We need to have agents pose as both buyers (terrorists) and sellers (terrorist supporters) to thoroughly disrupt the terrorist network. At a minimum, it will gum up the network and slow down their ability to attack us.
The bad news is that 9/11 showed us all how an extremely simple, well coordinated attack can kill thousands. There was no need for sophisticated SAMs or chem/bio weapons. Of course, that method is obsolete now - Beamer, et. al. showed us the way. You can bet that if I'm ever on a plane that's hijacked, when they find my body I'll have a chunk of terrorist flesh in my teeth!
What really surprises me is that AQ hasn't attacked us again here in the States. If I turn off my moral filter and think like a Muslim scumbag, I can come up with a zillion different ways they could cause chaos here without high-tech weaponry: large-scale arson attack of a city (eg. set several small fires in old buildings), take hostages at Day Care centers/schools, shoot AK-47s and/or RPGs at airliners taking off and landing, etc.

NJUSAO.org - NEW JERSEY US ATTORNEY'S OFFICE: "2003-08-13 -- Lakhani, Hemant et al. -- Criminal Complaint -- News Release: "BRITISH ARMS DEALER, TWO OTHERS ARRESTED IN ATTEMPTED SALE OF SHOULDER-FIRED MISSILE AND DEAL FOR 50 MORE" (PRESS RELEASE SNIPPET: "U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Christie of the District in New Jersey and FBI Director Robert Mueller and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge in Washington, announced the filing of a criminal complaint charging Hemant Lakhani with attempting to provide material support to terrorists and attempting to sell arms without a license. Lakhani, 68, of London, England, flew from London to John F. Kennedy International Airport on Sunday and was arrested yesterday by Special Agents of the FBI/Newark Joint Terrorism Task Force, as he was meeting with a government cooperating witness to complete the sale of a single shoulder-fired surface-to-air missile. A criminal complaint against Lakhani filed under seal on Monday in U.S. District Court in Newark alleges that Lakhani went to New Jersey to arrange for the sale of at least another 50 anti-aircraft missiles to the cooperating witness, who was posing as a representative of a Somali terror organization. Separate criminal complaints were filed against Yehuda Abraham, 75, a New York City jeweler and money remitter, and Moinuddeen Ahmed Hameed of Malaysia. Hameed arrived from Malaysia yesterday allegedly as part of the planned sale of another 50 missiles. Hameed was to collect an initial payment of $500,000 from the government cooperating witness, according to the complaint. Both men are charged with conspiring to operate an unlicensed money transmitting business.")
