Tancredo calls illegal immigration threat to U.S.

Illegal immigration into the United States threatens the future of the nation, a Colorado congressman told Mesa County Republicans on Friday.

U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Centennial, drew two standing ovations from about 100 Republicans, even though he acknowledged his stand on illegal immigration runs counter to that of the party's leader, President Bush.

Forcing a national debate over illegal immigration transcends party loyalty though, he said. At issue, he said, isn't so much whether the United States will have a Balkanized future, but whether it will have a future as a nation at all.

Illegal immigration combined with "the cult of multiculturalism" and the welfare state threaten to undermine and bankrupt American institutions, he said.

Tancredo joked that he actually was on his way to California to get in on the governor's race. In an exclusive interview with The Daily Sentinel, however, he said the stakes actually are a bit higher than a governor's race.

He has visited California on several occasions with the hope of forcing illegal immigration to a top-level issue in the 2004 presidential race.

One vehicle, he said, might be a referendum in the nation's most populous state that would limit access to any government services to citizens or legal residents only.

"Even if I'm 180 degrees wrong," he said, "the subject at least deserves a debate."

Tancredo said he advocates securing the nation's southern border using a 20,000-strong Border Patrol combined with high-tech equipment to prevent illegal border crossings.

A guest-worker program might be in order for industries that couldn't otherwise find employees, but no such program could work without a secure border, he said.

It's particularly important to secure the border, he said, because it isn't used only by Mexicans seeking employment.

"Huge numbers" of Middle-Easterners frequently cross the border, often helped by Mexican drug gangs who charge $30,000 for the use of their expertise, he said.

"I don't blame them," he said of illegal immigrants looking north for opportunity, but he noted the Mexican government relies heavily on money sent by illegal immigrants to their relatives to bolster the economy.

That amounts to about $10 billion a year, a third of the Mexican gross domestic product, he said.

Tancredo urged the Mesa County Republicans to insist that all candidates be held to account on illegal-immigration issues.

Even if offices such as city council or county commissioner seem to have little to do with illegal immigration, candidates still should be forced to take a position.

"Get them on record," he said.

So, aside from your html display, are you offering anything besides insults and/or your self-entertaining comments?

(Hint - that's really a rhetorical question.)

. That's not in the President's authority.

INS, Border Patrol and military deployments to the border a MOST CERTAINLY his authority.

We don't need mroe laws. We need the ones on the books ENFORCED.

Pictures save me a hell of a lot of time. Those posts were intended for general entertainment, not just mine. Sorry you didn’t enjoy them. I hope some others have.

Over at Cub Foods, our grocery warehouse chain, there are 10 guys stocking shelves, scrubbing floors, sweeping the lot, moving pallets and unloading trucks. They're all Mexican Americans. It's 11:30 on a Saturday night. Over at the local mall, there are 5 or 6 guys scrubbing floors, cleaning johns, emptying trash, sweeping the lot, fixing lights and doing all the maintenance work. All of them are Mexicans. The guys slinging chow in the kitchen at restaurants and bars still serving at this hour are likely Mexicans. At 6 am tomorrow and Sunday, Mexican roofers, landscapers, blacktop pavers, nail pounders, painters, drywall jockeys and fast food servers will be starting their 12 hour OT shifts. Most of them will be Mexicans.

LOL! So in Minnesota of all places, all the people working at supermarket are illegal aliens? All the maintenance people at Minnesota malls are illegal aliens? All your bartenders and cooks in Minnesota are illegal aliens? All the construction people, carpenter, painters and fast food employees are illegal aliens in Minnesota?

True story:

My buddy, who lives near San Diego puts out thousands of those flyers in Spanish, saying that Minnesota and it's people welcome you with open arms, and the people in Minnesota love illegal aliens, I had no idea it would work so well. He changes the welcoming state every few months.

He has one of those 5000 watt CB radio amplifiers, and he puts on a recording in Spanish and broadcasts messages that say there are plenty of jobs and people that love illegal aliens in Minnesota, LOL, he runs that tape all the time. Free enchiladas and movie tickets for all! And Minnesota is willing to give free gasoline for 3 months along with heavy duty winter clothing for every single illegal that can make it to Minnesota by November 15th.

He says its his civic duty and calls them public service announcements. Sure am glad you like illegals Fufkins. I'll tell my buddy to keep passing those flyers and broadcast going.

Is there anyone else out there that would like illegal aliens directed towards your state, just let me know.

No thanks. Minnesota can have them all. Arnie had better learn Spanish. They aren’t about to learn English.

Tancredo wants 20,000 Border Guards on the Mexican border. At $50,000 per, that's $1 billion in salaries and benefits. Add $10,000 more for training, that's another $200 million, they're going to need vehicles, comunications infrastructure, processing stations and holding cells to be build all along the border.

Yet Bush can easily find $15 billion for AIDs treatments in Africa. Pretty much sums up what the priories of this president are. Doesn't it Arne? Shipping billions of American Taxpayer dollars to African Tribes, most of which are consumed with cutting each others throat, for a disease that is 100% avoidable (unlike most diseases) is more important to Bush than executing his constitutionally *Mandated* duties to protect and defend OUR nation from foreign invasion. Interesting, isn't it?

Meanwhile Bush can't seem to find the money in his RECORD BREAKING Budget to fully fund medical care for our Veterans. With this president it sometimes seems like Clinton never left. Ever wonder why so many of Clinton's appointees are STILL floating around our State Dept.? I have a good guess on that. What's yours?

Thanks. The Coopster suggested that I'd be the only one to find them entertaining.

Your comment - Meanwhile Bush can't seem to find the money in his RECORD BREAKING Budget to fully fund medical care for our Veterans. -brings back a very sad memory to me.

Last year I was with a group who did some work at a Veterans home. As part of the project, we were “treated” to lunch. Just about everyone happily marched off to the mess hall the first day. Just about no one went back on the second or third.

I think my biggest concern of being wounded in action is the lifetime of bad food that might follow.

Our service men and women deserve better than that.

You Bet Barnacle. And lip service to our Veterans won't cut it when Bush is waltzing around the globe merrily blowing Billions of American Taxpayer Dollars on his misguided foreign adventures.
