>>I don't think it's wise to advertise this, as your IP address can be traced.<<

As though that concerns me. Everything, EVERYTHING I post here is done with the ASSUMPTION that the government is reading it and deciding if I have done anything illegal.

I am not a leech. I would be happy to pay any taxes I am required by the code to pay. I have already paid almost a quarter of a million dollars in child support and maintenance for which I hold the government directly responsible (since I did not divorce anyone and chose to keep my kids but the government removed them without cause).

I believe we are in theat neverland when it is "too late to work within the system and too early to shoot the bastards."

I am a sleeper, waiting for the inevitable. But it must rise to the same level it did for our founding fathers before it reaches that level with me

>>I would join in a tax revolt if I thought it would work. A letter writing campaign to the IRS is not going to do a damn thing. So why should I bother? If you think it will help then you write your letter. <<

There IS a tax revolt going on right under your nose - and it has been for over a decade. The Internet is making it easier to discover and join, as many, many of us have. We just want to pay what the law says - nothing more, nothing less.

Google this womans name and you will be amazed at what you find

"It says you will be taxed on the 'taxable income' taxable income is Gross income minus expenses, but since the IRS code does not define 'income' what are you paying?"

Aye, there's the rub! Congress has been trying for more than 85 years to define the term "taxable income" and the resulting 46,000 page mess (which former Treasury Secretary O'Neill referred to as "gibberish") is way beyond comprehension, not only by the IRS, but even by professional tax preparers. If you doubt that, go to Money magazine's website and search the archives for their test of the system that they used to do annually. The last time they did it (for CY 96, I believe), they received 47 tax returns prepared from the same source data and got 47 different answers as to the taxes owed. Can anyone honestly say this system isn't WAY out of control?

However, if the IRS gives you a wrong answer, they aren't accountable, but if you use their wrong answer in preparing your return, you sure are! Can anyone think of a more unamerican and unfair system?

I believe you are referring to the WTP approach, which several of us on here obviously agree is a russina roulette approach to protesting this despicable system.

There is another revolution going on that does not require you to put your head on the chopping block, either financially or in terms of your freedom. The FairTax (HR 25)now has 36 co-sponsors in the House and was recently introduced into the senate (s 1493). It is clearly building momentum and is going to be increasingly a visible issue over the next year.

With respect to the 46,000 page mess we have now, the Flat tax would be an improvement, but since we would still have to define that ever elusive term "taxable income", we would not get anywhere near the dramatic reduction in compliance costs which the FairTax would generate. There are a number of other advantages, but I will save those for another post.
