Talked to several of the guy on watch. Showed them the photo. All agreed that, if seen thru the gunner's sights, that could be misunderstood at range.
Gunner did the right thing.

and it's not like they have a lot of time to make a decision. The shooters probably had less than 30 seconds to make a determination. Also, these guys have been targets for a few months. He did the right thing.
