More than six decades ago, George Shultz graduated college. Now, he's finally made it. Republican Shultz has signed on as one of Arnold Schwarzenegger's economic advisers. Presumably he is supposed to balance Democrat Warren Buffett. The day before, Mr. Schwarzenegger announced Mr. Buffett as his economic guru. Is this triangulation, Terminator-style?

The end of the editorial was luke-warm and a throw-away. What I thought was most interesting was the chronicling of the backroom machinations of those involved in this whole thing over the last couple of months.

Schwarzeneggar: Pro-abortion, pro-gay, anti-gun, anti-marriage & family, pro-taxes.

Would someone PLEASE explain how this is a Republican? Anyone, any explanation, anytime.

If Schwarzenegger is the Great Republican Hope in California, the party is dead.

If he's a "republican" hope, then someone needs to explain first how he's a republican.

As near as I can tell, he hasn't a single position on anything that is republican.

Schulz himself has some RINO instincts - he;s on the record favoring affirmative action.

actually I said "anti-marriage and family"

Those who are pro-gay union are anti-marriage and family.

Besides, can you tell me which of his is a republican position? Is the pro-gun control, pro-abortion, pro-taxes, pro-gay union, or pro-big government position?

regular republican????

WHAT about Arnold is republican AT ALL???

So, if I can't win on my principles, but I work to put someone in charge who has absolutely NONE of my principles, then how exactly have I advanced my principles?

To beat the Rats, we have got to shoot at them, not at each other. We need to push that we have several good candidates whose positions are not exactly the same. Pubbies together have the edge, keep it together. Promote your position, shoot only at the enemy and unite behind the highest Pubbie in the end to win.

My preference at this point would not be Arnold, but I would certainly prefer him to Bustie. We shoot at each other and that's who we'll get.

Why do you prefer him to a democrat? His positions are all democrat.

In fact, Liebermann, Bayh, Miller, others seem to be democrats who are significantly more conservative than Arnold.

What about Arnold is republican?

I can't argue that Arnold is as Republican as I would like.
A few of the Rats you mentioned have some areas in which they are less liberal than he. I just think it will be easier to sway people who start inclined to vote for him if we persuade them a little further to the right instead of launching an assault on Arnold. I think allowing him to make some of the mistakes he is making without attacking him is already working pretty well. If we get too aggressive against him we could well drive votes we need back to Buste. Remember the nature of the market, we can win this with finesse - maybe not with brute force.
