Oh Jeez. You can bet there all sorts of nasty stuff there. Was involved in a case where a rogue cylidner 80%Silane 20% NO2 went up. There were cylinders of phosgene, radioactive gasses, etc at the location. 5 mile radius evacuation was the result, if memory serves.

"It's an AirGas plant..."

Whatever it is dosen't matter - they will still use it as an excuse to raise the pump prices here in CA.

They said each explosion is sending out shrapnel -- scarey -- the explosions just keep coming. Fire has spread across the area!

LOL, it's the truth. Sounds like a nasty situation, though. When I was a kid, a spark in a machine shop next to a gas station started a big fire that shut down an expressway a large part of the city. I remember looking at the fire from a long, long distance and still being able to feel the heat of the gasoline burning. Since that time I've always had a great respect for flammable gasses.

It is unbelieveable to watch. You can see flames and explosions happening as they are reporting. Moving everyone out of the area. Huge fire going on right now with a lot of black smoke that has spread rapidly!

Related to blackout? Doesn't natural gas fuel a lot of our power plants now?

The AirGas Supply in my area is a chain that provides oxygen, acetelyne (sp), and other tools for welding, machine, and maintenance shops. Very explosive stuff that require hazardous material endorsements for deliveries.

Looks like they might...even the gases that are not flammable, but are in cylinders on the dock awaiting shipment at around 2500 psi will go up.

We use all kinds of their stuff for our labs, from ultra high purity helium, to nitrogen, methane, hydrogen, oxygen, LN2, nitrous oxide, acetylene.

Boiling Liquid/Expanding Vapor Explosion. Try a google search for Kingman BLEVE, see if anything turns up. They can ruin your day.

Not natural gas, industrial or welding gases. Stuff like acetylene, oxygen, etc. The kind of stuff that will make this a very ugly situation indeed.
