Anyone who follows politics and wants to see the state GOP thrive, should care as well.
Education represents $45 billion, or 46% of California's budget this year, and the state faces a $13 billion shortfall next year. Do the math. Just to avoid adding to the $20 billion carryover deficit California currently has, a candidate who won't cut education will be forced to cut 25% of the state's non-education budget next year. Otherwise, he'll have to try and raise taxes.
Do you think Arnold is going to lay off thosuands of highway patrolmen? Shut state-funded down hospitals? Me neither.
No, he'll raise taxes, and he won't be breaking any promises when he does it, because he didn't make any.
