Wow, I didn't even know there were 12-string guitars! C'mon...yer kiddin' me, right? Ever heard of The Byrds?...well perhaps you haven't. They go back aways, but brought the 12 string sound to the forefront (electrified...mines acoustic).

The Univision Online story says that Cruz Bustamente is a "nieto de chihuahuenses." Does that mean his grandparents were Chihuahuas?

Sure, love the Byrds, turn, turn, turn. Just didn't know that THAT was the sound of a 12-string (until now).

The legend lives on from the Bay Of Pigs on down
of the Demo Party called "Gimme Gimme!"
The party, 'tis said, never gives up her dead
when the polling in Cali turn gloomy
The "Gimme Gimme" idea alone is priceless. And so apt. I'm going to steal that ...

You're absolutely right about the propriety of a stanza (or at least a line) addressing Cruz's only claim to fame (infamy?). How to do it? Esp., how to do it without being horrifically un-PC?

AAAAAAHHHH!! I *hate* that song!
Now it will be in my head the rest of the day!
The lyrics were really funny, though. :)

The legend lives on from the Pechanga on down
Of the Democrat ship Gimme Gimme
First mate on deck was a tax-hikin wreck
(and please, Gordon Lightfoot, dont sue me) ...

Here's my two cents:
Californias a state with a history thats great
But fate a great history can alter
Her citizens knew that a Liberal few
At her helm were hell-bent to assault her
Their ivory towers stood as symbols of power
That the people had doomed for destruction
And filled as they were, with their pensions assured
Became targets for patriot actions
When the recall struck Mr. Davis, he shook
And political bells started ringin
But Democrats knew, thered be media crews
And were hopin that help, theyd be bringin
While some ran off scared, others hid under chairs
But discovered their peril had doubled
When Arnold chimed in, they went scamblin
It was clear they were deeply in trouble
The pollsters it seems were aghast at the scene
And predicted October disaster
The Clinton-disaster-recovery crew
If they flew, couldnt get there much faster
When a tyrants prayers turn to bitter despair
It leaves Liberal hearts dis-believin
They prayed by their phones, but were never alone
For the Devil was sharin their grievin
In the Vote-booth debris, liberals fell to their knees
As they gathered the chad-covered ballots
But before they could speak, voters started to shreik
Chasing Rats from their once-sacred palace
Californias a state with a history thats great
But fate, a great history can alter
The courage displayed by her people that day
Is a lesson for Dems who'd assault her

I think yours is better than mine! I love the "chad-covered ballots" and the way it flows as a ballad (story). Someone really should try to cobble together the best stanzas by various folks and make it a FR "thing" ... maybe someone can even make a midi of it. Hope G.Lightfoot doesn't sue. :P

Thanks, Amigo. You did a great job yourself.
Re: Gordon - Parodies are pretty much protected. That's why radio stations love them so much.
