The Wreck Of The Cruz Bustamante [Song Parody - Vanity]
Vanity ^ | August 21, 2003 | Vanity

Posted on 08/21/2003 3:30:43 PM PDT by pogo101

The legend lives on from the Pechanga on down
Of California’s First Mate Bustamante
A tax-hiking swine, Cruz looked as refined
As Quixote astride Rocinante.

With the recall bein’ signed, Cruz thrice had declined
E’er to run on the ballot himself, see
For to do so would be, surely, disloyalty
To Cap’n Gray Davis’s party!

And Cruz was the pride of the La Raza side
Who longed for the reconquistada
As big politicos go he was bigger than most
Yet sounded so damn disparatada [nonsensical].

The news on the wire set Cruz’s ambitions afire
As the recall broke past Davis’s defenses
Every Democrat knew, as Cap’n Davis did, too,
Californians had come to their senses!

The crew wired Dianne it’d really hit the fan
And their Democrat ship’s beams were a-groanin’
but Admiral Dianne wouldna’ go; she shut off her radio
When the ship was broadsided by Conan!

It was then, Cruz did say, Davis was dead anyway –
“So what’s the point keepin’ mi promesa?”
He backstabbed ol’ Gray but, that very same day,
apologized por la sorpresa!

October 7 she came with Gray pullin’ up lame
while Tom and Bill threw help to Conan
Bustamante we’re told never rose in the polls
despite 75 days of his phonin’

And so it went, his political capital spent
To his party, he was repugnante
And so down went Gray, and, the very same day,
came the wreck of the Cruz Bustamante!

***

Orange County rolls, Sacramento sings
Of the cuts in Davis - Cruz taxes
California she steams with the Terminator’s dreams,
As regulation falls under the axes!

***

The legend lives on from the Pechanga on down
Of a left-wing racist muy gigante
That Election Day, Californians all say
brought the Wreck of The Cruz Bustamante!

Wow, I didn't even know there were 12-string guitars!

C'mon...yer kiddin' me, right? Ever heard of The Byrds?...well perhaps you haven't. They go back aways, but brought the 12 string sound to the forefront (electrified...mines acoustic).

FReegards,

FMCDH

The Univision Online story says that Cruz Bustamente is a "nieto de chihuahuenses." Does that mean his grandparents were Chihuahuas?

Sure, love the Byrds, turn, turn, turn. Just didn't know that THAT was the sound of a 12-string (until now).

The legend lives on from the Bay Of Pigs on down
of the Demo Party called "Gimme Gimme!"
The party, 'tis said, never gives up her dead
when the polling in Cali turn gloomy

The "Gimme Gimme" idea alone is priceless. And so apt. I'm going to steal that ...

You're absolutely right about the propriety of a stanza (or at least a line) addressing Cruz's only claim to fame (infamy?). How to do it? Esp., how to do it without being horrifically un-PC?

AAAAAAHHHH!! I *hate* that song!
Now it will be in my head the rest of the day!

The lyrics were really funny, though. :)

The legend lives on from the Pechanga on down
Of the Democrat ship “Gimme Gimme”
First mate on deck was a tax-hikin’ wreck
(and please, Gordon Lightfoot, don’t sue me) ...

Here's my two cents:

California’s a state with a history that’s great
But fate a great history can alter
Her citizens knew that a Liberal few
At her helm were hell-bent to assault her

Their ivory towers stood as symbols of power
That the people had doomed for destruction
And filled as they were, with their pensions assured
Became targets for patriot actions

When the recall struck Mr. Davis, he shook
And political bells started ringin’
But Democrats knew, there’d be media crews
And were hopin’ that help, they’d be bringin’

While some ran off scared, others hid under chairs
But discovered their peril had doubled
When Arnold chimed in, they went scamblin’
It was clear they were deeply in trouble

The pollsters it seems were aghast at the scene
And predicted October disaster
The Clinton-disaster-recovery crew
If they flew, couldn’t get there much faster

When a tyrant’s prayers turn to bitter despair
It leaves Liberal hearts dis-believin’
They prayed by their phones, but were never alone
For the Devil was sharin’ their grievin’

In the Vote-booth debris, liberals fell to their knees
As they gathered the chad-covered ballots
But before they could speak, voters started to shreik
Chasing ‘Rats from their once-sacred palace

California’s a state with a history that’s great
But fate, a great history can alter
The courage displayed by her people that day
Is a lesson for Dems who'd assault her

I think yours is better than mine! I love the "chad-covered ballots" and the way it flows as a ballad (story). Someone really should try to cobble together the best stanzas by various folks and make it a FR "thing" ... maybe someone can even make a midi of it. Hope G.Lightfoot doesn't sue. :P

Thanks, Amigo. You did a great job yourself.

Re: Gordon - Parodies are pretty much protected. That's why radio stations love them so much.

Isn't it time for some Bustamante HAIKU?

Bustamante wins
Raises your taxes sky high
Pay them in pesos
