That is the lamest arguement I have ever heard and nobody, I repeat nobody in MLB from players to managers could care less about Bonds elbow pad. Some pitchers actualy like it because they are less afraid to pitch Barry inside and jam him up at the hands, which is the second most prefered way to pitch to him. The most preffered way for managers is the four finger count! There is no more feared or respected batter at the plate than Barry in the history of the game..........period!

I don't see where it says that no player can wear an elbow pad. If you're arguing that Bonds' pad exceeds the size limit than that is covered by the statement the director of field operations made. Have they made exceptions for other ball players for any equipment they may have worn? Did Larry Bowa single out Bonds or is he talking about elbow pads in general? Was Bowa's statement made after a weekend of watching Bonds jack ball after ball out of Veteran Stadium? These are all questions that need to be answered in order to figure out why anyone should give a crap.

>>>>>>.Let Rose alone, in the Hall and back into baseball.<<<<<
Rose should not be allowed to manage ever again...how can you know any time he makes a pitching decision or calls for a steal or pinch hit that he isn't throwing a game?
As for the Hall of Fame.....If Rose will admit to betting on games he was involved in, I would agree to letting him in....with two exceptions:
1.) Shoeless Joe goes in first
2.) Rose's plaque reads that he admitted to gambling on games.
Then I have no problem.

As long as he is on MLB's lifetime ban list
i'm more of a football guy...but maybe someone can help out here. how many players are banned from the HOF?
To: jsbankston
So it's just the fact that he broke a rule that bothers you? Do you have ANY tangible evidence that he affected the outcome of ANY game?
I'd say a player who is on drugs WHILE actually playing the game (Dave Parker, etc, etc, etc) or hung over WHILE actually playing the game (David Wells, etc, etc, etc), or who has used steroids (Jose Canseco, Lenny Dykstra, etc, etc, etc) WHILE ACTUALLY playing the game, or an owner who colludes with another owner to rig the salary system have ACTUALLY AFFECTED THE OUTCOME OF GAMES.
Show me evidence that a player did something inappropriate (drugs, alcohol, steroids, laziness, poor attitude) that affected the outcome of a game and I say look into banning him.
No one has offered ANY proof that Rose did that.

Thank you for this information. But cui bono? I never raised the matter of comparing Bonds and Ruth.

No evidence has been offered that Rose did anything to affect the outcome of ANY game.
The Black Sox THREW THE WORLD SERIES.
No comparison

Baseball commissioner did not react much when Sosa corked the bat. The penalty should have been harsh but he made the front page right after the short suspension for hitting a homer. Players admit using drugs and corking bats. Baseball needs to change.

See post #44 for a quick reality check.
Bonds is a great one, but there have been better. Ruth and Williams spring quickly to mind.

I say keep plunking Bonds until he backs off. If you can't pitch him inside he walks or hits a dinger, makes a travesty of his at bats.

"A Rose is a Rose is a Rose." And a Rose by any other name would be....Shoeless Joe Jackson.

Good. Let Charley Hustle have some peace. Compared to the rapists, addicts, cheaters (corked bats, spitballs, etc), a bet is hardly worth mentioning. The great hue and cry of "he COULD have coached in a way that COULD have affected the outcome of the game IF he had bet on a game he participated in" pales in comparison to those who sully the game by having a bat explode during a game, the news associating the team name with a rape/theft/assault, or a SEVEN-TIME suspended player getting just one more chance (what a great mesage for kids who might be thinking about experimenting, eh?). He was put through decades of this nonsense for personal reasons, and nothing more. Those jealous of his success (thanks more to hard work than gifts) got to make him sufer for this many years. It's enough. Put him back in.

2.) Rose's plaque reads that he admitted to gambling on games.Shall we include reminders of our currency of our Founders' transgressions, as well? Maybe a few lines of text on the flag of every state that had slave-owners (this included Northern states, recall). Maybe chip into Mt Rushmore with a few words about Jefferson's ownership of slaves, and out of wedlock paternity of a slave's child? Wouldn't THAT make those honorariums SO much better?
