WABC Radio in NYC Adds Laura Ingraham to its Lineup
Radio & Records.com ^ | 8/22/03

Starting next month, two of Talk Radio Network's syndicated hosts will compete head-to-head for nighttime talk listeners in New York City: On Sept. 2, Laura Ingraham's program will begin airing in the 7-9pm slot on WABC.

The final hour of her show will go directly against TRN's Michael Savage, whose program debuted last week in the 8-10pm shift on crosstown Talker WOR.

Upon Ingraham's arrival at WABC, Mark Levin and Monica Crowley will move their shows to 6-7pm and 9-10pm, respectively, while ABC Radio Networks' syndicated Larry Elder is dropped from the station's lineup.

I took a liking to Ms. Crowley. Was hoping she would get more than an hour.

Glad Savage is back on the New York dial.

Does anyone know how to go about getting Shows like Laura Ingraham's and Rush Limbaugh's on XM satellite radio? I know that in travelling cross country - especially when driving - it can be maddening to try to listen in. The AM band is HORRIBLE for is short range and noise - signals are always fading in and out. Additionally the shows are often broadcast at different times. It can be a challenge to hear a complete broadcast.

Sean Hannity ans Bill O'Reilly are already on XM. I'm wondering if it will take a write in campaign to the hosts and XM - or if there's some other reason why Rush and Laura wouldn't want to be on a nationwide satellite network (contracts, advertising, etc )

What is WABC's problem with not having any black conservative programming? I like Larry Elder.

So Levin will be on rigth after Hannity. Sounds like Hannity will hang around a little bit and Levin may show up a bit earlier for some playful banter. I like it. I really do not like Monica's voice and have heard similar from others.

"We have had our eyes on Laura for several years, but never had a place for her on WABC" said WABC Program Director Phil Boyce.

"This new night lineup allows us to showcase her talents, but also find prominent roles for Mark Levin and Monica Crowley."

Boyce had high praise for both Crowley and Levin, who began doing regular shows for WABC in the Spring.

"Monica is a treasure, and has really added a lot to WABC since joining us on a regular basis. She's smart, passionate, and always well prepared."

As for Levin, boyce is equally excited. "Mark has been doing Sunday afternoons for about a year and has become one of the stars of the weekend lineup. Listeners constantly ask me to hear more of him, and now they can, monday thru friday at 6 after Sean Hannity."

Glad Savage is back on the New York dial.

I am too. I've been listening since he started on WOR last week and the tri-state area callers seem very happy to have him back. I did like listening to Levin in the 7-9 slot. I don't think splitting the evening line-up three ways is going to work well for WABC, not against Savage any way. He seems to have toned it down a bit. No one takes on the ACLU and liberal professors the way Savage does. I'd prefer Larry Elder over both Crowley and Ingrahm. Crowley's show consists of reading "breaking terror news" that we've already seen here on Free Republic.

Laura "the Lip" Ingraham to WABC Radio in NYC

It'll be Ingraham vs. WOR's Michael Savage

By DAVID HINCKLEY
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

WABC (770 AM) is launching its own verbal rocket in the evening: As of Sept. 2, the sharp-tongued Laura Ingraham will take the 7-9 p.m. weeknight slot.

It sounds like Levin and Crowley are as good as gone, at least in terms of the weekday lineup. You simply don't keep one-hour shows in that time slot around for very long.

Glad to see Levin is still in the lineup, Ingraham coming aboard. Crowley will probably still show up on Bachelor and Alexander and weekends. Sorry to see Elder go - he got into a lot of substance without the name calling.

No room for one of the liberal superstars, apparently. Maybe Barbara Streisand could do a daily commentary or something like that.

Monica Crowley is great. She is enjoyable to listen to, intelligent and she seems quite comfortable on radio. I wish WABC would cut Hannity back (I know it's not going to happen). I used to like Hannity but rarely listen to him anymore. He has a bad habit of using childish arguments even when he is on the right side of an issue and he has about zero grasp of American history. He also lost me with his sophmoric "checkmate" line.

I think Mr. Elder's show just did not resonate in the New York market. The style of the show was too "West Coast" and dealt with too many California topics. While Savage also relies heavily on West Coast (specifically San Fran.) information, his Brooklyn upbringing provides him with a good base of New York region trivia and analogy that connects him with that particular audience.

I did like Mr. Elder's show and I think he is an articulate and incredibly intelligent host. I just don't think his show ever was designed with a New York audience in mind.

Laura Ingraham is no competition for Savage. WABC/Disey made a big mistake.

Monica Crowley also subs for one or the other of the hosts of Batchelor & Alexander quite a lot.
